Vulgarinin, a broad-spectrum antifungal peptide from haricot beans (Phaseolus vulgaris)
International Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, 2005From the seeds of haricot beans (Phaseolus vulgaris), an antifungal peptide with a molecular mass around 7 kDa was purified by using a simple protocol consisting of affinity chromatography on Affi-gel blue gel and gel filtration on Superdex 75. This peptide named vulgarinin manifested an antifungal activity toward fungal species such as Fusarium ...

Characterization of Seed Lipoxygenase of Phaseolus vulgaris cv, Haricot
Journal of Food Science, 1986ABSTRACT Phaseolus vulgaris cv, haricot seed lipoxygenase was extracted and partially purified. The precipitation of an active lipoxygenase fraction with solid ammonium sulfate (at 20–50% of saturation) increased its activity by a factor of 3. The pH for optimum activity was 7.3.

Studies on Seed Peroxidase Phaseolus vulgaris cv, Haricot
Journal of Food Science, 1988ABSTRACT Phaseolus vulgaris cv, haricot seed peroxidase was extracted and partially purified. The precipitation of an active peroxidase fraction with solid ammonium sulfate (at 35‐90% saturation) increased its activity by a factor of 3. The pH for optimum activity was 5.4.

The present study was designed to test the hypothesis that increasing short-chain fatty acid (SCFA)production in the large bowel increases gut epithelial proliferation rate (EPR). Two experiments were carried out in which rats were fed on bread (wholemeal or white)-based diets containing graded amounts of cooked haricot (Phaseofus vulgaris) beans; the ...

Cell wall material was isolated from selected non-aged and aged Red haricot bean cotyledons using a texture-based classification approach. Pectin-depleted residual cell wall fractions were obtained by sequential pectin extraction and were characterized to investigate in situ cell wall related molecular changes upon ageing during adverse storage of the ...

ABSTRACT Peroxidase activity was determined in haricot seed prior to germination, 5 days after germination, after 50 days of development and in the mature succulent green bean (80 days after germination). Specific activity of peroxidase, expressed as μ‐mole oxidized o‐dianisidine/mg protein/min, was low (38.2) before germination; it ...

Yield components of haricot beans ( Phaseolus vulgaris L.) grown at different plant densities
New Zealand Journal of Agricultural Research, 1971Abstract At Lincoln eight haricot bean cultivars were grown at 2 in. and 4 in. spacing in 18 in. rows in 1969‐70. The cultivars Small White Commercial, White Navy, Sanilac, and Seaway were superior in yield and seed size for processing. On average, plots with 2 in. spacing yielded 9.8% more than plots with 4 in.
