Harm reduction in Europe: mapping coverage and civil society advocacy.

open access: yes, 2011
The european Harm Reduction network, or euroHRn, was formed in 2009 by ten civil society organisations with a shared interest in advocating for and sharing knowledge on harm reduction within europe.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Expanding conceptualizations of harm reduction: results from a qualitative community-based participatory research study with people who inject drugs

open access: yes, 2017
Background The perspectives of people who use drugs are critical in understanding why people choose to reduce harm in relation to drug use, what practices are considered or preferred in conceptualizations of harm reduction, and which environmental ...

Epigenetic blind spots – the role of DNA methylation dynamics in stem cell‐based models of embryogenesis

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Embryo‐like structures (stembryos) are an innovative tool, but they are hindered by experimental variability and limited developmental potential. DNA methylation is crucial for mammalian development, but its status in stembryo models is poorly characterized.

How we understand fully the supply, demand, and harm reduction in drugs policy in Vietnam?

open access: yes
Since the 1990s, Vietnam has begun prioritising preventing and combating drug-related crimes (supply reduction) and rehabilitating drug users (demand reduction).

Hotel of Last Resort: Enhancing User Agency in Harm Reduction Architecture

open access: yes, 2020
Homeless individuals who use drugs represent some of the most vulnerable and marginalized among society. In the context of a national opioid epidemic in Canada, harm reduction strategies, which reduce the adverse consequences associated with practices or

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...

Reducing structural harm to empower youth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Presented at the Harm Reduction International Conference (HR19), Porto, Portugal 2019. Amidst one of the most significant public health emergencies, Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) recognized the need to address the growing and changing needs of youth ...

Defining Harm Reduction as Part of a Public Health Approach Towards Gambling

open access: yes, 2019
This chapter presents the concept of harm reduction (HR), which was developed in the 1980s in response to prevention issues related to the intravenous use of psychoactive substances.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...
