A ruthenium anticancer compound interacts with histones and impacts differently on epigenetic and death pathways compared to cisplatin [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Ruthenium complexes are considered as potential replacements for platinum compounds in oncotherapy. Their clinical development is handicapped by a lack of consensus on their mode of action.

HDAC4 Regulates Muscle Fiber Type-Specific Gene Expression Programs

open access: yesMolecules and Cells, 2015
Fiber type-specific programs controlled by the transcription factor MEF2 dictate muscle functionality. Here, we show that HDAC4, a potent MEF2 inhibitor, is predominantly localized to the nuclei in fast/glycolytic fibers in contrast to the sarcoplasm in slow/oxidative fibers.

Roles of Histone Deacetylase 4 in the Inflammatory and Metabolic Processes [PDF]

open access: yesDiabetes & Metabolism Journal
Histone deacetylase 4 (HDAC4), a class IIa HDAC, has gained attention as a potential therapeutic target in treating inflammatory and metabolic processes based on its essential role in various biological pathways by deacetylating non-histone proteins ...

The Actin-binding Protein Moesin and Memory Formation in Drosophila : A thesis presented to Massey University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Science in Biochemistry [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Moesin is a cytoskeletal adaptor protein that plays an important role in modification of the actin cytoskeleton and the formation of dendritic spines, which may be crucial to long-term potentiation.

HDAC-mediated control of ERK- and PI3K-dependent TGF-β-induced extracellular matrix-regulating genes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Histone deacetylases (HDACs) regulate the acetylation of histones in the control of gene expression. Many non-histone proteins are also targeted for acetylation, including TGF-ß signalling pathway components such as Smad2, Smad3 and Smad7. Our studies in

Effects of novel HDAC inhibitors on urothelial carcinoma cells

open access: yesClinical Epigenetics, 2018
Background Histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACi) are promising anti-cancer drugs that could also be employed for urothelial carcinoma (UC) therapy. It is unclear, however, whether inhibition of all 11 zinc-dependent HDACs or of individual enzymes is ...
