A strategy for synergistic enhancement of immune circulation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma by novel nucleic acid drug therapy and immunotherapy

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine
Studies have shown that in the pathogenesis of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, immune circulation obstruction caused by various factors including metabolic abnormalities, gene mutations, and matrix barrier, is a critical factor for the induction ...

GLS1 Orchestrates Exosome‐Mediated Tumor‐Endothelial Communication to Facilitate Angiogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals a previously unappreciated, non‐metabolic function of GLS1 in the control of tumor angiogenesis via exosome‐mediated CAV1‐TNC signaling, indicating that therapeutic targeting of GLS1 may offer a dual benefit by simultaneously suppressing tumor metabolic activity and angiogenic processes in head and neck cancer. ABSTRACT Glutaminase 1

Carrier cell-mediated cell lysis of squamous cell carcinoma by squamous cell carcinoma antigen 1 promoter-driven oncolytic adenovirus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The squamous cell carcinoma antigen (SCCA) serves as a serological marker for squamous cell carcinomas. Molecular cloning of the SCCA genomic region has revealed the presence of two tandemly arrayed genes, SCCA1 and SCCA2.

Genetic Susceptibility to Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma [PDF]

open access: yesJNCI Journal of the National Cancer Institute, 1996
In addition to influences of exposure to carcinogenic compounds, the development of cancer may depend on an individual intrinsic cancer susceptibility. Biomarkers for cancer susceptibility can be powerful additions to epidemiologic analyses. This multicenter, case-control analysis combines previously published data and new data to substantiate the value

Rewiring NADH Metabolism Through NQO1‐Mediated Redox Cycling for Targeted Follicular Lymphoma Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Follicular lymphoma (FL) remains an incurable B‐cell malignancy with high relapse rates, and conventional therapies are often limited by significant toxicity, highlighting the need for novel treatments. We identified that FL exhibits markedly low expression of NAD(P)H: quinone oxidoreductase 1 (NQO1), a key enzyme required for activating ...

Clinical relevance of circulating tumour cells in the bone marrow of patients with SCCHN [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Background: Clinical outcome of patients with head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (SCCHN) depends on several risk factors like the presence of locoregional lymph node or distant metastases, stage, localisation and histologic differentiation of the ...

Limited detection of human polyomaviruses in Fanconi anemia related squamous cell carcinoma.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2018
Fanconi anemia is a rare genome instability disorder with extreme susceptibility to squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck and anogenital tract. In patients with this inherited disorder, the risk of head and neck cancer is 800-fold higher than in ...

Nivolumab for Recurrent Squamous-Cell Carcinoma of the Head and Neck [PDF]

open access: yesNew England Journal of Medicine, 2016
Patients with recurrent or metastatic squamous-cell carcinoma of the head and neck after platinum chemotherapy have a very poor prognosis and limited therapeutic options. Nivolumab, an anti-programmed death 1 (PD-1) monoclonal antibody, was assessed as treatment for this condition. In this randomized, open-label, phase 3 trial, we assigned, in a 2:1 ...

Targeting PLD3 Reverses the Immunosuppressive Niche by Reprogramming Tumor‐Associated Macrophages and Potentiates Antitumor Immunity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
PLD3 activates the lysosomal‐AKT‐NF‐κB axis to drive cellular senescence in macrophages, establishing an immunosuppressive TME by limiting the infiltration of cytotoxic T, NK, and NKT cells, which confers resistance to anti‐PD‐1 therapy. Abrine inhibits PLD3 expression, restoring antitumor immunity and synergizing with anti‐PD‐1 treatment.
