Evaluation of therapeutic effects of D‐limonene following orchiopexy in the rat model of cryptorchidism

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
D‐limonene supplementation enhances testicular recovery following orchiopexy in a rat model of bilateral cryptorchidism. Treatment with D‐limonene reduces oxidative stress (↓MDA, ↑SOD, ↑GPx, ↑TAC), downregulates pro‐apoptotic proteins (↓TNF‐α, ↓BAX, ↓Caspase‐3), and upregulates anti‐apoptotic Bcl‐2 expression.

Modifications of Lysine Residues 294 and 311 Within the Microtubule‐Binding Region Alter Tau Aggregation and Tubulin Binding Equilibria

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The molecular consequences of specific lysine modifications in Alzheimer´s disease remain insufficiently resolved in the context of full‐length protein. Here we integrate protein semisynthesis, segmental isotope labelling, and high‐resolution NMR spectroscopy to achieve residue‐resolved interrogation of site‐specific acetylation and carboxymethylation.

Ac‐SDKP modulates apoptosis via HSP27 and the FAS/FASL and mitochondrial axes

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Schematic diagram of Ac‐SDKP regulating the FAS/FASL and mitochondrial apoptosis pathways via HSP27. Ac‐SDKP inhibits HSP27 expression, activates the FAS/FASL pathway and Caspase‐3 signaling, increases Caspase‐8 and Caspase‐3 expression, and induces cell apoptosis.

Intermolecular Carbon–Carbon Naphthalene Coupling Involves a Radical Mechanism Driven by Cytochrome P450 in Alternaria alternata

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
1,8‐DHN is an important intermediate to form complex aromatic ring systems. Phenol‐coupling reactions are important for the dimerization of two molecules. Here, we show that a fungal cytochrome P450 enzyme catalyzes specific C─C bonds. ABSTRACT Dihydroxynaphthalene (DHN) derivatives are precursors of biologically important molecules, including melanin ...

Patient‐Derived Fibroblasts as a Clinically Relevant Model of Kearns–Sayre Syndrome

open access: yesAnnals of Neurology, EarlyView.
Objective Kearns–Sayre syndrome (KSS) is characterized by single large‐scale mitochondrial DNA deletions and by severe early‐onset clinical manifestations with neurological involvement. Reliable disease models, as well as validated biomarkers or effective treatments, are lacking.

A critical reappraisal of the carotid sinus and carotid bulb: Distinguishing neurohistological function from vascular geometry

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
This review redefines the carotid bulb (CB) as a variable geometric dilation shaped by hemodynamics and the carotid sinus (CS) as a conserved neurohistological baroreceptor field. Distinguishing these entities clarifies a century of anatomical confusion and links geometry, neurohistology, and clinical interpretation within a unified framework ...

The Role of miRNAs in Chicken Immune Regulation and Prospects for Disease‐Resistant Breeding

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
A schematic workflow illustrating the screening of disease‐resistant miRNAs and the generation of miRNA‐based disease‐resistant chickens via PGC‐mediated germline genome editing. ABSTRACT MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are emerging as pivotal regulators of the immune system, playing a decisive role in shaping disease resistance in chicken.

Heat shock protein 27 stimulates recovery of RNA and protein synthesis following a heat shock

Journal of Cellular Biochemistry, 1997
Constitutive expression of human hsp27 resulted in a 100-fold increase in survival to a single lethal heat shock in CHO cells without effecting the development of thermotolerance. A possible mechanism for the thermoprotective function of hsp27 may be increased recovery of protein synthesis and RNA synthesis following a heat shock.

A Study of Heat Shock Protein 27 in Endometrial Carcinoma

Gynecologic Oncology, 1999
Heat shock protein 27 (HSP27) is a relatively small protein produced in response to pathophysiologic stress. The purpose of this study was to determine prospectively whether HSP27 was associated with known prognostic factors in patients with endometrial carcinoma. One hundred fifty-three consecutive patients with endometrial carcinoma were studied ...

Untangling the complexity of heat shock protein 27 in cancer and metastasis

Archives of Biochemistry and Biophysics, 2023
Heat shock protein 27 is a type of molecular chaperone whose expression gets up-regulated due to reaction towards different stressful triggers including anticancer treatments. It is known to be a major player of resistance development in cancer cells, whereby cells are sheltered against the therapeutics that normally activate apoptosis.
