Beyond the helix [PDF]

open access: yesNature, 2003
The 50 years that have passed since DNA's double-helix structure was elucidated could be commemorated with skills that have evolved from progressive to passe. Pipetting? Prosaic. Gene cloning? Available in off-the-shelf kits. Whole-genome sequencing? Reserved for a handful of high-throughput, highly automated facilities.

A GAL4-Driver Line Resource for Drosophila Neurobiology

open access: yesCell Reports, 2012
We established a collection of 7,000 transgenic lines of Drosophila melanogaster. Expression of GAL4 in each line is controlled by a different, defined fragment of genomic DNA that serves as a transcriptional enhancer.

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Framed Natural Mates of Framed Curves in Euclidean 3-Space

open access: yesMathematics, 2023
In this study, we consider framed curves as regular or singular space curves with an adapted frame in Euclidean 3-space. We define framed natural mates of a framed curve that are tangent to the generalized principal normal of the framed curve ...

Protein pyrophosphorylation by inositol pyrophosphates — detection, function, and regulation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Protein pyrophosphorylation is an unusual signaling mechanism that was discovered two decades ago. It can be driven by inositol pyrophosphate messengers and influences various cellular processes. Herein, we summarize the research progress and challenges of this field, covering pathways found to be regulated by this posttranslational modification as ...

Grip strength as a systems biomarker of aging: neuromuscular junction constraints and biomarker decoupling in gene therapy

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging
Grip strength has emerged as one of the most robust predictors of mortality, disability and healthspan across populations. Yet its predictive validity rests on an often-unstated assumption: that grip strength serves as a passive readout of systemic ...
