Adverse stem cell clones within a single patient’s tumor predict clinical outcome in AML patients

open access: yesJournal of Hematology & Oncology, 2022
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients suffer dismal prognosis upon treatment resistance. To study functional heterogeneity of resistance, we generated serially transplantable patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models from one patient with AML and twelve ...

X‐linked inhibitor of apoptosis protein represents a promising therapeutic target for relapsed/refractory ALL

open access: yesEMBO Molecular Medicine, 2022
Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) represents the most frequent malignancy in children, and relapse/refractory (r/r) disease is difficult to treat, both in children and adults.

The hematopoietic stem cell diet [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Hematology, 2018
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are responsible for sustaining life-long blood formation or hematopoiesis and are also used clinically in a form of bone marrow transplantation, a curative cellular therapy for a range of hematological diseases. HSCs are maintained throughout adult life by a complex biological niche or microenvironment, which is thought ...

The hematopoietic stem cell niche [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience, 2012
Hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) possess the ability to self-renew and to differentiate to mature progeny along multiple different hematopoietic lineages. The function of HSCs depends upon the signals from surrounding cells found within the highly specialized microenvironment termed the hematopoietic stem cell niche. Understanding and exploiting the HSC

Skeletal muscle is enriched in hematopoietic stem cells and not inflammatory cells in cachectic mice

open access: yes, 2008
OBJECTIVE: Cachexia, a debilitating syndrome characterized by skeletal muscle wasting, is associated to many chronic diseases and diminishes the quality of life and survival of patients. Tumor-derived factors and proinflammatory cytokines, including TNF-

Improved arteriogenesis with simultaneous skeletal muscle repair in ischemic tissue by SCL plus multipotent adult progenitor cell clones from peripheral blood [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
Background: The CD34- murine stem cell line RM26 cloned from peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been shown to generate hematopoietic progeny in lethally irradiated animals.

Safety of Daprodustat for the Treatment of Chronic Kidney Disease Anemia: Final Analysis of a Multicenter Postmarketing Surveillance Study in Japan

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction This final analysis of a multicenter, prospective postmarketing surveillance study evaluated the safety of daprodustat in patients with chronic kidney disease anemia in routine clinical practice in Japan. Methods Patients who initiated daprodustat between September 2020 and July 2022 were registered.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Characterization of aging-related changes in human hematopoietic stem cells

open access: yes, 2021
The continuous production of blood cells, maintained by hematopoietic stem cells, is vital to sustain life. With advancing age, hematopoietic stem cells undergo distinct age-related modifications that manifest as an increased risk of developing blood ...

Osteoblast Derived Exosomes Alleviate Radiation- Induced Hematopoietic Injury

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2022
As hematopoietic stem cells can differentiate into all hematopoietic lineages, mitigating the damage to hematopoietic stem cells is important for recovery from overdose radiation injury.
