Hematoporphyrin Derivative Photoradiation Therapy of Endobronchial Lung Cancer

open access: yes, 1984
Hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD) photoradiation therapy (PRT) has been reported as an effective treatment for a variety of tumors (1,2). This technique relys on the tumor localizing and photosensitization potential of HpD to selectively destroy tumors.

Hematoporphyrin derivative photoradiation therapy of the rat 9L gliosarcoma brain tumor model

Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 1984
AbstractThe distribution of hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) in the rat 9L gliosarcoma intracerebral brain tumor model at 4, 24, 48, and 72 hours after intravenous administration was evaluated using a digital video fluorescence microscopy technique. Maximum tissue fluorescence in the normal brain was observed at 4 hours, whereas maximum fluorescence in

Photoradiation Therapy with Hematoporphyrin Derivative in the Management of Brain Tumors

open access: yes, 1986
Hematoporphyrin is a naturally occurring compound similar to the heme of hemoglobin without the iron ligand (Fig. 1). Since the observation by Lipson44–46 in 1960 that a derivative of hematoporphyrin (HpD) had superior tumor localizing characteristics when compared to hematoporphyrin, all subsequent clinical studies have used HpD.

Early Detection of Lung Cancer by Means of Hematoporphyrin Derivative Fluorescence and Laser Photoradiation

Clinics in Chest Medicine, 1985
In recent years hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD), a mixture of porphyrin compounds that have an increased affinity for malignant tissue, has been used as an endobronchial tumor indicator to facilitate the bronchoscopic localization of early squamous cell carcinoma of the central tracheobronchial tree. In this article the authors describe four different

Hematoporphyrin derivative photoradiation induced damage to normal and tumor tissue of the pigmented rabbit eye

Current Eye Research, 1984
Cytotoxicity induced by hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD) photoradiation in both normal and experimental tumor tissue of pigmented rabbit eyes has been examined. In addition, documentation of HpD induced fluorescence in ocular structures has also been obtained.

Photoradiation Therapy with Hematoporphyrin as a Selective Technique for the Treatment of Malignant Tumors

open access: yes, 1985
Photoradiation therapy (properly, the technique should be classified as photochemotherapy) is a new branch of oncology for the treatment of malignant tumors. The method is based on the ability of certain porphyrins[1–3] to be taken up and/or retained by tumor cells for longer periods of time than normal cells.

Photoradiation Therapy with Hematoporphyrin Derivative and an Argon Dye Laser of Bladder Carcinoma

open access: yes, 1984
Hematoporphyrin Derivative (HpD) which has an affinity for malignant tumors is excited by light exposure and reacts photodynamically in tumor tissue. Therefore it is possible to treat malignant tumor selectively without any damage to surrounding normal tissues. HpD is excited by a light in the spectrum from ultraviolet to visible red.

Exposure (dose) tables for hematoporphyrin derivative photoradiation therapy

Lasers in Surgery and Medicine, 1984
AbstractTwo sets of tables are presented that permit the rapid determination of (1) milliwatts per centimter2 based upon known site diameter and power output from fiber optic and (2) time of exposure (minutes and seconds) based upon known site diameter and power output from fiber optic.

Hematoporphyrin Derivative and Laser Photoradiation in the Treatment of Lung Cancer

Chest, 1982
Photoradiation therapy (PRT) was performed in 13 lung cancer cases and in one case of severely atypical squamous metaplasia following administration of hematoporphyrin derivative (HpD). The HpD is activated by visible red light (630 nm, 90 to 400 mW) from an argon dye laser.

Inhibition of mammalian DNA polymerases by hematoporphyrin derivative and photoradiation.

Cancer research, 1986
Hematoporphyrin derivative (HPD) plus photoradiation caused the inactivation of DNA polymerases from calf thymus and R3230AC rat mammary tumor. Photosensitization of purified DNA polymerase-alpha as well as two forms of DNA polymerase-delta (I and II) from calf thymus were evaluated.
