Can the Nonheme Iron Oxygenase Thymine Hydroxylase Catalyze Three Successive Reaction Cycles on One Substrate?

open access: yesChemCatChem, Volume 18, Issue 18, 28 September 2026.
A computational study on the structure, dynamics and catalytic mechanism is reported on thymine hydroxylase that shows substrate locked inside the protein and enables three successive catalytic cycles for (1) thymine hydroxylation, 2) 5‐hydroxymethyluracil desaturation, and (3) 5‐formyluracil hydroxylation to form carboxylic acid products.

Modulating the Gut‐Microbiota‐Brain Axis in Alzheimer's Disease: Therapeutic Potential of Nutritional and Metabolic Factors

open access: yesCNS Neuroscience &Therapeutics, Volume 32, Issue 9, September 2026.
This review systematically examines the role of gut microbiota modulation in Alzheimer's disease, focusing on how microbial metabolites and dietary nutrients influence cognitive function and AD pathology, as well as the neuroprotective effects through the gut‐brain axis.

Dysregulated circRNA expression profile and associated miRNA sponging in abnormal lung development in congenital diaphragmatic hernia

open access: yesClinical and Translational Medicine, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are stable, stage‐ and tissue‐specific regulators of gene expression warranting their study in abnormal fetal lung development in congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). We present a CDH‐specific circRNA biosignature in the nitrofen rat model (E15/E21) using orthogonal validation with human comparison and discovered conserved ...

Advancing Type 1 Diabetes Treatment: 3 PM‐Oriented Innovations in Islet Transplantation and Biomaterial Engineering

open access: yesDiabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews, Volume 42, Issue 6, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disorder marked by the immune‐mediated destruction of pancreatic β‐cells, resulting in insulin deficiency and dysregulated glucose control. Current therapies—such as insulin replacement and artificial pancreas systems—manage symptoms but fail to restore endogenous β‐cell function or halt disease ...

Cinnamaldehyde From Cinnamon as a Food‐Derived Bioactive: Phytochemistry, Anticancer Mechanisms, Bioavailability, Nanoformulation and Safety

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 5, September 2026.
Cinnamaldehyde derived from Cinnamomum species exerts multitarget anticancer effects by promoting oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, apoptosis, cell‐cycle arrest, autophagy, and epigenetic changes, and by suppressing mitogen‐activated protein kinase (MAPK), phosphoinositide 3‐kinase/protein kinase B/mechanistic target of rapamycin (PI3K/Akt ...

Taurine and Metabolic Diseases: Molecular Mechanisms and Therapeutic Implications

open access: yesFood Frontiers, Volume 7, Issue 5, September 2026.
The dietary sources of taurine, as well as its protective effects and mechanisms in metabolism‐related diseases and metabolic disorder–associated ocular and cerebral injuries. ABSTRACT Taurine (Tau) is a sulfur‐containing amino acid prevalent in animal tissues and primarily acquired through dietary sources.
