Teliospores of Hemileia vastatrix
Mycological Research, 1995Teliospores of Hemileia vastatrix were observed on Coffea arabica leaves at the end of the dry, winter months in South Africa. A scanning electron microscopy study revealed that teliospores are pedicellate, smooth, spherical or napiform with a terminal papilla. They are borne on teliosporophores either among urediosporophores or separately. Teliospores

Appressorium formation by Hemileia vastatrix
Mycological Research, 1993At germination, germ tubes extrude through germ pores of the urediniospore wall of Hemileia vastatrix . As many as five germ tubes can be formed from a single urediniospore, but only one elongates and extends randomly over the epidermis. Exploratory branches form along its length. Upon reaching the raised lips of the subsidiary cells of coffee leaves,

Abnormal development of uredia in Hemileia vastatrix
Transactions of the British Mycological Society, 1965In Hemileia vastatrix Berk. & Br. the only type of uredium so far known is typically superstomal. Rare occurrences of subepidermal uredia and sori developed inside the intercellular spaces of the spongy parenchyma, intermingled with the typical hypophyllous, superstomal sori are described.

Polysaccharides from Hemileia vastatrix uredospores
Experimental Mycology, 1983Abstract The polysaccharidic fractions isolated from Hemileia vastatrix uredospores by alkali treatment, expressed as a percentage of the initial uredospore weight, gave the following yields: 1 M NaOH soluble at 22°C (7.1); 1 M NaOH soluble at 60°C (5.0); and insoluble residue (7.6).

Identification of a new race of Hemileia vastatrix in Brazil
Australasian Plant Disease Notes, 2009In this study, a survey of physiological races of Hemileia vastatrix was carried out on 34 coffee leaf rust populations collected at several coffee genotypes in Brazil. After the inoculation on leaf disc of coffee differential clones, the races I, II, III, XIII, XVII and XXXVII were characterised.
