An immune-centric exploration of BRCA1 and BRCA2 germline mutation related breast and ovarian cancers

open access: yesBMC Cancer, 2020
Background BRCA1/2 germline mutation related cancers are candidates for new immune therapeutic interventions. This study was a hypothesis generating exploration of genomic data collected at diagnosis for 19 patients.

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Investigating the potential for expediting diagnosis of ovarian cancer via prompt symptom recognition & "targeted screening" [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
PhDThis thesis explores the potential for using symptoms as a tool to bring forward the diagnosis of ovarian cancer. Current evidence supports the existence of prediagnostic symptoms, however symptom lead time has yet to be adequately quantified ...

Evaluation of non-canonical p53 functions in DNA replication and recombination for variant classification

open access: yesCell Death and Disease
Pathogenic germline TP53 variants predispose to diverse Li-Fraumeni syndrome (LFS) phenotypes and a broad cancer spectrum, whereby carriers of hypomorphic variants cluster in a cohort with attenuated disease onset and an overrepresentation of breast ...

BRCA1 mutations in Brazilian patients

open access: yesGenetics and Molecular Biology, 2004
BRCA1 mutations are known to be responsible for the majority of hereditary breast and ovarian cancers in women with early onset and a family history of the disease.

Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndromes

open access: yesAsian Pacific Journal of Environment and Cancer
Women who inherit a mutation in the BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene are much more likely to develop breast and ovarian cancer. A woman’s specific risk depends on many factors including her age, whether she has a BRCA1 or BRCA2 mutation, and her medical and family ...

Cancer‐associated mutations in endometriosis reframe a benign disease through molecular oncology

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review aims to comprehensively analyse cancer‐associated somatic mutations (CAMs) present in endometriotic lesions, emphasizing their biological roles, spatial distribution and implications for translational applications in medicine. By contextualizing a benign state within a genomic framework, this analysis seeks to establish its value as a ...

Non-BRCA1/2 Variants Detected in a High-Risk Chilean Cohort With a History of Breast and/or Ovarian Cancer

open access: yesJournal of Global Oncology, 2019
PURPOSE: Little is known about the genetic predisposition to breast and ovarian cancer among the Chilean population, in particular genetic predisposition beyond BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations.

Castration‐resistant prostate cancer cells are addicted to the high activity of cyclin‐dependent kinase 2

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We show that emergence of castration‐resistant prostate (CRPC) is associated with significant upregulation of cyclins that positively regulate cyclin‐dependent kinase 2 (CDK2) and concomitant downregulation of CDK4 cyclins. This renders CRPC cells dependent on the high activity of CDK2, and CDK2 inhibitors synergistically sensitize CRPC cells to both ...

Increased prevalence of colorectal adenomas in women with breast cancer [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Background: The frequency of colorectal adenomas and carcinomas was investigated in a large cohort of women with breast cancer in comparison with matched controls, since data on the occurrence of second tumors in women with breast cancer is controversial.
