Seroprevalence of Kaposi Sarcoma–associated Herpesvirus and Other Serologic Markers in the Brazilian Amazon

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2009
To determine the presence of Kaposi sarcoma–associated herpesvirus (KSHV) and other serologic markers, we tested serum specimens of 339 Amerindians, 181 rural non-Amerindians, and 1,133 urban blood donors (13 Amerindians) in the Brazilian Amazon.

One Step Ahead: Herpesviruses Light the Way to Understanding Interferon-Stimulated Genes (ISGs)

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
The host immune system is engaged in a constant battle with microorganisms, with the immediate detection of pathogenic invasion and subsequent signalling acting as crucial deterrents against the establishment of a successful infection.

The Robust Kernel Association Test [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2019
Testing the association between SNP effects and a response is a common task. Such tests are often carried out through kernel machine methods based on least squares, such as the Sequence Kernel Association Test (SKAT). However, these least squares procedures assume a normally distributed response, which is often violated. Other robust procedures such as

Herpesviral microRNAs in Cellular Metabolism and Immune Responses

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2017
The microRNAs (miRNAs) function as a key regulator in many biological processes through post-transcriptional suppression of messenger RNAs. Recent advancements have revealed that miRNAs are involved in many biological functions of cells.

Duplicate US1 Genes of Duck Enteritis Virus Encode a Non-essential Immediate Early Protein Localized to the Nucleus

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular and Infection Microbiology, 2020
The duplicate US1 genes of duck enteritis virus (DEV) encode a protein with a conserved Herpes_IE68 domain, which was found to be closely related to the herpes virus immediate early regulatory protein family and is highly conserved among counterparts ...

SQSTM1/p62 Orchestrates Skin Aging via USP7 Degradation

open access: yesAging Cell, EarlyView.
p62 exhibits diminished expression in aging skin and senescent cells. p62 serves to inhibit the accumulation of USP7 during senescence induction. The Tyr‐67 residue within the PB1 domain or Gln‐418 within the UBA domain of p62 forms a hydrogen bond with Ala‐993 of the Ubl5 domain of USP7.

Lichen Planus Following COVID‐19 Infection and Vaccination. Matched Case–Control Study

open access: yesAustralasian Journal of Dermatology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background New‐onset lichen planus (LP) development following COVID‐19 infection/vaccination is reported. Since case series cannot be used to study exposure–outcome associations, we designed this matched case–control study to investigate whether COVID‐19‐related events and de novo LP are associated.
