Construction and evaluation of an expression vector allowing the stable expression of foreign antigens in a Salmonella typhimurium vaccine strain at toxic levels. [PDF]

open access: yes, 1994
Salmonella strains have great potential as live carriers of heterologous antigens to induce immunity against a variety of infectious diseases. However, the amount of heterologous antigen required to induce an adequate immune response may be toxic for the

Studies on heterologous immunity in schistosomiasis. I. Heterologous schistosome immunity in mice.

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 1968
Epidemiological and experimental studies indicate that heterologous immunity resulting from exposure to bovine and other animal schistosomes might be of some importance in determining the relative severity of schistosome infection in man in different parts of the world.

Porcine kidney xenotransplantation: From primate models to clinical reality

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In the face of a critical shortage of human donor kidneys for end‐stage renal disease patients, porcine kidney xenotransplantation has emerged as a viable solution. This field has navigated major hurdles, including immune rejection, physiological incompatibilities, potential biomechanical differences and the risk of cross‐species infection. To overcome

Studies on heterologous immunity in schistosomiasis. 5. Heterologous schistosome immunity in sheep.

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 1973
Previous studies have shown that when cattle are exposed to cercariae of Schistosoma mansoni they develop considerable resistance to subsequent challenge with S. mattheei. The present study showed that when sheep are immunized with S. mansoni cercariae they too develop a marked resistance to subsequent challenge with S. mattheei.

Effect of HIV infection and antiretroviral therapy on hepatitis B virus (HBV)-specific T cell responses in patients who have resolved HBV infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Coinfection with hepatitis B virus (HBV) is a common occurrence in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)–positive patients and an increasing cause of morbidity and mortality.

A novel mouse model of endometriosis: Simulating the recurrent hemorrhagic microenvironment of clinical lesions

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
To address the limitations of existing models, this study innovatively established a mouse model of endometriosis (EMs) capable of mimicking cyclic bleeding. Our results confirmed that this model recapitulates the complete pathological progression from ectopic lesion establishment to systemic responses, exhibiting superior clinical relevance compared ...

Decade-Long Sustained Cellular Immunity Induced by Sequential and Repeated Vaccination with Four Heterologous HIV Vaccines in Rhesus Macaques

open access: yesVaccines
Background/Objectives: Developing durable cellular immunity remains a critical challenge for HIV vaccine development. Methods: We evaluated a sequential and repeated heterologous prime–boost vaccination regimen using four distinct vector-based vaccines ...

A Potent and Effective Suicidal Listeria Vaccine Platform. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Live-attenuated Listeria monocytogenes has shown encouraging potential as an immunotherapy platform in preclinical and clinical settings. However, additional safety measures will enable application across malignant and infectious diseases.

Comparison of Receptor‐Mediated Endocytosis and Its Application to Enhance DNA Transfection by TFAMoplex

open access: yesAdvanced NanoBiomed Research, EarlyView.
We developed an assay to distinguish cellular binding from internalization. Compatible with microscopy and high‐throughput screening, the method identifies ligand‐mediated uptake. Applying top candidates to a protein‐based DNA carrier enhanced transfection efficiency, providing a rational strategy to improve non‐viral gene delivery systems.

Studies on heterologous immunity in schistosomiasis. 2. Heterologous schistosome immunity in rhesus monkeys.

open access: yesBulletin of the World Health Organization, 1968
Previous studies on heterologous immunity in mice have indicated that Schistosoma bovis and S. mattheei could be used to limit the severity of infection resulting from subsequent challenge by S. mansoni. These observations have now been extended to study the immunizing effect in rhesus monkeys of both S. mattheei and S.
