The effect of high-fructose corn syrup vs. sucrose on anthropometric and metabolic parameters: A systematic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Nutrition, 2022
High-fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has been speculated to have stronger negative metabolic effects than sucrose. However, given the current equivocality in the field, the aim of the present study was to determine the impact of HFCS use compared to sucrose ...

Evaluation of HFC 245ca and HFC 236ea as Foam Blowing Agents [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Cellular Plastics, 1995
Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFCs) have been widely adopted as an interim blowing agent in urethane insulations. Due to their scheduled phase-out, research efforts are being devoted to the identification and development of alternatives with zero ozone depletion potential.

“We come as friends”: approaches to social accountability by health committees in Northern Malawi

open access: yesBMC Health Services Research, 2019
Background In Malawi, as in many low-and middle-income countries, health facility committees (HFCs) are involved in the governance of health services. Little is known about the approaches they use and the challenges they face.

Anionic T‐Shaped Platinum(0) Pincer Complexes and Platinum(I) Intermediates in Radical Reactions With Alkyl Halides

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Two anionic, T‐shaped, d10 platinum(0) complexes containing a PNP pincer ligand have been isolated and characterized. These complexes react with aliphatic C‐Br bonds under formation of a platinum(II) bromide and an alkyl complex, as well as the homocoupled hydrocarbons.

Machine Learning‐Assisted Inverse Design of Soft and Multifunctional Hybrid Liquid Metal Composites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A machine learning framework is presented for inverse design of synthesizable multifunctional composites containing both liquid metal and solid inclusions. By integrating physics‐based modeling, data‐driven prediction, and Bayesian optimization, the approach enables intelligent design of experiments to identify optimal compositions and realize these ...

PROTECTIVE EFFECTS OF SELENIUM SUPPLEMENTATION AGAINST HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP-INDUCED RETINAL DAMAGE IN RATS THROUGH REDUCTION OF INFLAMMATION AND APOPTOSIS

open access: yesIJRETINA (International Journal of Retina)
Introduction: High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) consumption is associated with metabolic complications, including retinopathy. The aim of the current study is to investigate the potential protective effect of selenium (Se) against HFCS-induced retinal ...

Assessing the effect of sugar type and form of its intake on selected parameters of carbohydrate-lipid metabolism and plasma atherogenic indices in rats

open access: yesRoczniki Panstwowego Zakladu Higieny, 2019
Background. Over the past 50 years, the average consumption of sugar worldwide has tripled, also the type of consumed sugar has changed. Due to high price of sucrose and its technological disadvantages, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) has become one of

Food texture affects glucose tolerance by altering pancreatic β-cell function in mice consuming high-fructose corn syrup.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
The incidence of metabolic diseases, such as type 2 diabetes, has increased steadily worldwide. Diet, beverages, and food texture can all markedly influence these metabolic disorders.

Scenario analysis of hydrofluorocarbons emission reduction in China's mobile air-conditioning sector

open access: yesAdvances in Climate Change Research, 2022
With the Kigali Amendment (KA) coming into effect in China, the control of hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) emissions has become more imperative. The mobile air-conditioning (MAC) sector is one of the important HFCs consumer sectors, and therefore studying its ...
