Coinfection of human herpesviruses 6A (HHV-6A) and HHV-6B as demonstrated by novel digital droplet PCR assay. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The human herpesviruses HHV-6A and HHV-6B have been associated with various neurologic disorders partly due to the detection of elevated viral DNA levels in patients compared to controls.

High incidence and viral load of HHV-6A in a multi-centre kidney transplant cohort

open access: yesFrontiers in Transplantation, 2023
Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is a common opportunistic pathogen in kidney transplant recipients. Two distinct species of HHV-6, HHV-6A and HHV-6B, have been identified, of which the latter seems to be dominant. However, it is unclear whether they increase

Association Between Plasma SITH-1 Antibody Titers and Treatment Trajectory of Treatment-Resistant Depression. [PDF]

open access: yesNeuropsychopharmacol Rep
This study investigated whether SITH‐1, a latent HHV‐6B protein that promotes neuroinflammation, is associated with the clinical trajectory of treatment‐resistant depression (TRD). We demonstrated significantly elevated SITH‐1 titers and a correlation with the number of depressive episodes, suggesting that SITH‐1 may serve as a novel biomarker for TRD.

Inhibition of p53-dependent, but not p53-independent, cell death by U19 protein from human herpesvirus 6B.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
Infection with human herpesvirus (HHV)-6B alters cell cycle progression and stabilizes tumor suppressor protein p53. In this study, we have analyzed the activity of p53 after stimulation with p53-dependent and -independent DNA damaging agents during HHV ...

Temporal lobe epilepsy associated with human herpes virus 6

open access: yesActa Epileptologica, 2021
Human herpes virus 6 (HHV-6) is a ubiquitous and most common pathogen that affects humans. Human herpes virus 6B (HHV-6B) is a wide spread human herpesvirus that infects most people when they are children, establishes latent infections in the central ...

β-Herpesviruses in Febrile Children with Cancer

open access: yesEmerging Infectious Diseases, 2008
We conducted a cross-sectional study of β-herpesviruses in febrile pediatric oncology patients (n = 30), with a reference group of febrile pediatric solid-organ transplant recipients (n = 9).

Human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) detection and genome-wide host expression profiles implicate HHV-6B as a pulmonary pathogen after hematopoietic cell transplantation

open access: yes, 2023
Abstract Limited understanding of the immunopathogenesis of human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B) has prevented its acceptance as a pulmonary pathogen after hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). We conducted a prospective multicenter study of patients undergoing bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) for pneumonia after allogeneic HCT.

Structural basis for the interaction of human herpesvirus 6B tetrameric glycoprotein complex with the cellular receptor, human CD134.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2020
A unique glycoprotein is expressed on the virus envelope of human herpesvirus 6B (HHV-6B): the complex gH/gL/gQ1/gQ2 (hereafter referred to as the HHV-6B tetramer).

HHV-6B is frequently found in the gastrointestinal tract in kidney transplantation patients. [PDF]

open access: yesTransplant international : official journal of the European Society for Organ Transplantation, 2012
In immunosuppressed patients human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) reactivations are common. The aim of the study was to determine to which extent HHV-6 can be found in the gastrointestinal tract in kidney transplant recipients and in patients on chronic dialysis. The HHV-6 and cytomegalovirus (CMV) examinations were performed on gastro duodenal and colon biopsy
