HIGH-TEMPERATURE DRYING OF ALFALFA STEMS

Experiments were conducted to determine the feasibility of using high-temperature air to dry alfalfa. Stem segments were exposed to heated air between 95° and 865 °C. The effects of temperature, exposure time, initial moisture content, and the interactions of these variables were observed.

Simulation of High-Temperature Drying of Wood

An existing model of heat and mass transfer in wood at conventional temperatures was adapted to simulate the wood drying process at temperatures above the boiling point by adding a pressure equation. Two drying tests were conducted on white spruce (Picea glauca) sapwood and heartwood in a laboratory kiln at 105 and 115°C to validate the model.

Combination High-Temperature, Ambient-Air Drying

ABSTRACT THE results of four years of high temperature, high-speed drying followed by in-storage, ambient-air dry-ing are presented. These results show that combination drying results in a reduction in propane or natural gas energy requirements compared to conventional high-temperature drying with in-dryer cooling.

A high-temperature drying model for softwood timber

The high-temperature drying of a softwood board with relatively high permeability was modelled on a one-dimensional basis. The moisture-transport mechanism between fibre saturation and irreducible saturation was elucidated, and moisture flow within the thin layer of damaged cells at the sawn surfaces of the timber board was examined.
