Ultrathin Hydrogel Membranes Inspired by Soap Films Enable Physiologically Relevant Breathing Lung Models

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A soap‐film inspired strategy enables the fabrication of ultrathin yet robust GelMA‐PAAm membranes for breathing lung culture. The hydrogel membrane supports long‐term cyclic deformation under air‐liquid interface conditions, enabling physiologically relevant breathing motions of engineered lung tissue culture. ABSTRACT Breathing continuously stretches

Hippo signaling determines the number of venous pole cells that originate from the anterior lateral plate mesoderm in zebrafish

open access: yeseLife, 2018
The differentiation of the lateral plate mesoderm cells into heart field cells constitutes a critical step in the development of cardiac tissue and the genesis of functional cardiomyocytes.

Scribble acts in the Drosophila fat-hippo pathway to regulate warts activity. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Epithelial cells are the major cell-type for all organs in multicellular organisms. In order to achieve correct organ size, epithelial tissues need mechanisms that limit their proliferation, and protect tissues from damage caused by defective epithelial ...

Engineering Pluripotent Stem Cells‐Derived Inner Ear Organoids With Enhanced Maturation and Reproducibility by Micro‐Topographical Cues

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Micro‐topographical cues applied through temporally controlled microscale confinement improve the reproducibility, spatial organization, and neurosensory‐associated features of pluripotent stem cell‐derived inner ear organoids. Integration with a vascularized organoid platform further enables controlled investigation of vascular‐epithelial interactions

Yorkie: the final destination of Hippo signaling [PDF]

open access: yesTrends in Cell Biology, 2010
The Hippo signaling pathway is a key regulator of growth during animal development, whereas loss of normal Hippo pathway activity is associated with a wide range of cancers. Hippo signaling represses growth by inhibiting the activity of a transcriptional co-activator protein, known as Yorkie in Drosophila and Yap in vertebrates.

Inhibition of IGFBP4 in Granulosa Cells Improves Reproductive Performance and Maintains Fertility With Age via YAP Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
IGFBP4 is upregulated in granulosa cells of aged ovaries across monkeys, mice, and humans. It inhibits YAP signaling, thereby suppressing cell proliferation and contributing to follicular dysfunction. Deletion of Igfbp4 in granulosa cells enhances ovulatory output, improves hormone profiles, and reproductive performance in aged female mice, suggesting ...

Genome‐Wide CRISPR Screen Identifies a microRNA Orchestrating Pleiotropic Resistance to Targeted Therapy and T Cell Immunity in Melanoma

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A genome‐wide microRNA CRISPR screen identifies miR‐18a as a master regulator of cross‐resistance in melanoma. Loss of miR‐18a activates the AJUBA–YAP/Hippo axis to confer BRAFi resistance and enhances THBS1–CD47 interaction to impair CD8+ T cell immunity. hnRNP A1 is identified as an upstream regulator of miR‐18a processing.

Adult Sex Ratio as a Demographic Feedback Linking Mating Systems, Parental Care, and Evolution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breeding systems are some of the most diverse social behavior, and our team is investigation the evolutionary causes of this diversity. This review summarises our research carried out at the University of Bath. We argue that demographic components of wild populations, especially the adult sex ratio, plays a key role driving breeding system variation ...

In Situ Stress‐Dispersing Hydrogel Millispheres via Load Redistribution to Restore Nucleus Pulposus Metabolic Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Local stress concentration disrupts metabolic homeostasis and induces inflammation in the nucleus pulposus (NP), thereby accelerating intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). A biomimetic HA/ChS hydrogel millimeter sphere (ChS@HM) is developed to enable synergistic stress dispersion and sustained hydration lubrication.

The Hippo pathway regulates homeostatic growth of stem cell niche precursors in the Drosophila ovary.

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2015
The Hippo pathway regulates organ size, stem cell proliferation and tumorigenesis in adult organs. Whether the Hippo pathway influences establishment of stem cell niche size to accommodate changes in organ size, however, has received little attention ...
