Metformin Impairs Breast Cancer Growth through the Inhibition of PRMT6

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Metformin has a biological activity against breast cancer. However, it is largely unknown about its precise therapeutic targets. Here, histone arginine methyltransferase PRMT6 is identified as a new anti‐cancer target for metformin. Metformin directly binds PRMT6 and inhibits its ability to catalyze histone H3R2 asymmetric dimethylation (H3R2me2a ...

Thermodynamic stability of histone H3 is a necessary but not sufficient driving force for its evolutionary conservation.

open access: yesPLoS Computational Biology, 2011
Determining the forces that conserve amino acid positions in proteins across species is a fundamental pursuit of molecular evolution. Evolutionary conservation is driven by either a protein's function or its thermodynamic stability.

Semi-Synthesis to Examine the Role of Phosphorylation of Histone H3 at T118 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The basic unit of chromatin is the nucleosome; 147 bp of DNA wrapped around an octamer core of histone proteins. Post-translational modifications of these histone proteins have the potential to dramatically alter chromatin structure and dynamics, which ...

Chromosome Centromeres: Structural and Analytical Investigations with High Resolution Scanning Electron Microscopy in Combination with Focused Ion Beam Milling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Whole mount mitotic metaphase chromosomes of different plants and animals were investigated with high resolution field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) to study the ultrastructural organization of centromeres, including metacentric ...

Extracellular Vesicle‐Delivered tRF‐His‐GTG‐1 Reprograms Neutrophil Lipophagy and Triggers Inflammation in COVID‐19

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies platelet‐derived extracellular vesicles as key immunometabolic regulators in COVID‐19. The delivery of tRF‐His‐GTG‐1 to neutrophils activates TLR8mTOR signaling, disrupts lipophagy, and amplifies NET‐mediated inflammation. Importantly, targeting this axis restores neutrophil homeostasis, offering a potential therapeutic strategy ...

Structure-based nuclear import mechanism of histones H3 and H4 mediated by Kap123

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Kap123, a major karyopherin protein of budding yeast, recognizes the nuclear localization signals (NLSs) of cytoplasmic histones H3 and H4 and translocates them into the nucleus during DNA replication.

Thermal denaturation and template activities of reconstituted DNA-histone complexes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1977
Reconstituted complexes of DNA with histone were prepared by salt-and-urea step gradient dialysis. The DNA was complexed with histone H1, with the combination of the other four histones H2A, H2B, H3 and H4, and with whole histones.

Cfp1 is required for gene expression dependent H3K4me3 and H3K9 acetylation in embryonic stem cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BackgroundTrimethylation of histone H3 lysine 4 (H3K4me3) accumulates at promoters in a gene activity dependent manner. The Set1 complex is responsible for most H3K4me3 in somatic cells and contains the conserved subunit Cfp1, which is implicated in ...

TREM2 Drives Neutrophil Extracellular Traps‐Induced Dendritic Cell Maturation and Contributes to Lupus Progression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TREM2 recognizes NETs‐derived MPO to promote DC maturation and antigen presentation, thereby exacerbating the autoimmune response in SLE. Mechanistically, TREM2 activation triggers the DAP12/SYK/ERK cascade and enhances NETs internalization by DCs, which in turn activates the cGAS/STING signaling pathway.

Serum histone H3 levels and platelet counts are potential markers for coagulopathy with high risk of death in septic patients: a single-center observational study

open access: yesJournal of Intensive Care, 2019
Background Recent studies have suggested that anticoagulant therapy does not confer a survival benefit overall in sepsis, but might be beneficial in sepsis-associated disseminated intravascular coagulation (DIC). In particular, those with high Sequential
