Latency: the hidden HIV-1 challenge [PDF]
AbstractEradication of HIV-1 from an infected individual cannot be achieved by current regimens. Viral reservoirs established early during the infection remain unaffected by anti-retroviral therapy for a long time and are able to replenish systemic infection upon interruption of the treatment.

Summary: Latent proviruses persist in central (TCM), transitional (TTM), and effector (TEM) memory cells. We measured the levels of cellular factors involved in HIV gene expression in these subsets.

Transient-mediated fate determination in a transcriptional circuit of HIV
Steady-state behavior and bistability have been proposed as mechanisms for decision-making in gene circuits. However, transient gene expression has also been proposed to control cell fate with the decision arbitrated by the lifetime of the expression ...

HIV-1 latency in proliferating T cells [PDF]
In this thesis we focus on the ability of HIV-1 to establish a latent provirus in proliferating T cells and on how the silent provirus can be activated from latency. HIV-1 latency is a major barrier towards virus eradication from the infected individual.

Innate Immune Regulation in HIV Latency
Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Washington, 2021Innate immunity and type 1 interferon (IFN) defenses are critical for early control of HIV-1 infection within CD4+ T cells.

CpG methylation controls reactivation of HIV from latency. [PDF]
DNA methylation of retroviral promoters and enhancers localized in the provirus 5' long terminal repeat (LTR) is considered to be a mechanism of transcriptional suppression that allows retroviruses to evade host immune responses and antiretroviral drugs.

In children with presumptive tuberculosis, comprehensive point‐of‐care (cPOCUS) identified key thoracic abnormalities with high specificity and excellent inter‐reader reliability. Although diagnostic sensitivity was modest and examinations often incomplete, cPOCUS shows promise as a complementary, radiation‐free imaging tool.

HIV latency: present knowledge and future directions
International audienceCurrent therapies do not eradicate HIV from infected patients. Indeed, HIV hides in a latent form insensitive to these therapies. Thus, one priority is to eliminate these latent reservoirs.

Micro RNA targets in HIV latency - insights into novel layers of latency control. [PDF]
Despite the considerable progress that has been made in identifying cellular factors and pathways that contribute to establishment and maintenance of the latent HIV reservoir, it remains the major obstacle to eradicating this virus.

Abstract Background Nationally representative mental health data in adolescents from low‐ and middle‐income countries (LMICs) are scarce. This study aimed to examine mental health and wellbeing indicators amongst adolescents in 12 LMICs across Eastern and Southern Africa and Southeast Asia. Methods We conducted a secondary analysis of data involving 12,
