Discovery of miRNAs unique to actively transcribed erythroparvovirus infection in heart failure patients

open access: yesESC Heart Failure, Volume 12, Issue 3, Page 1872-1882, June 2025.
Abstract Aims miRNAs, small non‐coding RNAs, play key roles in gene regulation, cell differentiation and tissue development. They influence viral infection outcomes by directly interacting with viral genomes or modifying the host microenvironment. This study demonstrates miRNAs' ability to selectively suppress transcriptionally active erythroparvovirus,

Advances in the Role of Antimicrobial Peptides in the Management of Sexually Transmitted Infections

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, Volume 39, Issue 11, June 2025.
The article reviews recent advancements in the use of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) for the treatment and prevention of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), with a particular focus on research progress in combating infections such as gonorrhea, HIV, HSV, and Chlamydia, as well as the challenges and future directions in this field.

Analytical treatment interruption among women with HIV in southern Africa who received VRC01 or placebo in the Antibody Mediated Prevention Study: ATI stakeholder engagement, implementation and early clinical data

open access: yesJournal of the International AIDS Society, Volume 28, Issue 6, June 2025.
Abstract Introduction Antiretroviral therapy (ART) prevents and treats, but does not eradicate, HIV. Early ART initiation is associated with post‐ART virologic control, particularly among African women, and anti‐HIV‐1 broadly neutralizing antibodies (bnAbs) may modulate immune responses to HIV.

Point of care testing of HIV in children younger than 18 months with three different HIV virological assays. Experience from a district hospital in a resource-limited setting

open access: yesMicrobiology Research, 2012
Diagnosis of HIV in children younger than 18 months can be challenging in developing countries because requires the use of HIV virological tests. In this study we describe the experience with three commercial assays, HIV- 1 DNA polymerase chain reaction (

Reverse transcriptase inhibitors in Aicardi–Goutières syndrome: A crossover clinical trial

open access: yesDevelopmental Medicine &Child Neurology, Volume 67, Issue 6, Page 750-757, June 2025.
Viral nucleic acid recognition induces a physiological type I interferon mediated innate immune response. In some cases of Aicardi‐Goutières syndrome, this same response is proposed to be triggered by self‐derived nucleic acid generated through reverse transcription. Here, reverse transcriptase inhibitors were assessed in such cases.
