Expression analysis of HLA-E and NKG2A and NKG2C receptors points at a role for natural killer function in ankylosing spondylitis [PDF]
Background. Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS) is a complex chronic inflammatory disease strongly associated with the majority of HLA-B27 alleles. HLA-E are non-classical MHC class I molecules that specifically interact with the natural killer receptors NKG2A ...

Allelic variation in HLA-B and HLA-C sequences and the evolution of the HLA-B alleles [PDF]
Several new HLA-B (B8, B51, Bw62)- and HLA-C (Cw6, Cw7)-specific genes were isolated either as genomic cosmid or cDNA clones to study the diversity of HLA antigens.

Hla‐c locus antigens in hla‐b27 associated arthritis [PDF]
AbstractFrequecies of the HLA‐C locus antigens, Cw 1, Cw2, Cw3, and Cw4, were determined in 88 patients with spondylitic diseases and 88 matched and 64 B27‐positive normal controls. Both Cw1 and Cw2 were significantly increased in B27‐positive patients and B27‐positive controls as compared to B27‐negative patients and matched controls.

The HLA-E Gene encodes two differentially regulated Transcripts and a Cell Surface Protein [PDF]
An HLA-E-specific oligonucleotide probe was used to study the expressioonf HLA-E. This probed etects two HLA-E transcripts, 1.8 and 2.7 kb in size, which are present in varying ratios in allt issues and cell lines investigated.

HLA-B27 modulates intracellular growth of Salmonella pathogenicity island 2 mutants and production of cytokines in infected monocytic U937 cells. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis PT4 KS8822/88 replicates rapidly in HLA-B27-transfected human monocytic U937 cells. In this process, Salmonella pathogenicity island 2 (SPI-2) genes play a crucial role.

ObjectivesHuman leucocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27) is an important biomarker for ankylosing spondylitis (AS). However, delay in the diagnosis of AS is still common in clinical practice.
