Tissue Antigens, 1977A Japanese population was typed for HLA‐D antigens for the first time using HLA‐D homozygous typing cells Dw1 through Dw4 and the homozygous cells LD HO and LD AH, newly found in the Japanese population. Dw3 was absent from the Japanese population which also lacks B8.

HLA-D Antigens in Progressive Systemic Sclerosis (Scleroderma)
Immunological Communications, 1981Seven unrelated patients with progressive systemic sclerosis (scleroderma) were studied for HLA-DW antigens. 4/7 possessed the DW1 antigen. This suggests that a common genetic factor, linked to the major histocompatibility complex, may be present in the majority of patients with scleroderma.

Human Ia‐Like Antigens Associated with HLA‐D
Scandinavian Journal of Immunology, 1977Antisera raised within HLA‐A‐ and ‐B‐compatible, HLA‐D‐disparate combinations were cytotoxic to B lymphocytes from the immunizing donor and to B lymphocytes from most or all cell donors sharing the immunizing donor's HLA‐D phenotype. Four antisera recognized structures closely associated with the HLA‐D determinants Dw2, Dw3, Dw4, and LD 108.

Two‐Chain Subunit Structure of HLA‐D Antigens
Tissue Antigens, 1977Both F(ab′)2 fragments and intact antibody from rabbit anti‐B‐cell antisera were shown to specifically block the mixed lymphocyte culture (MLC) reaction. The antisera, which were raised to papain‐solubilized spleen cell membrane antigens, appeared to block the stimulator cell and not the responder cell.

HLA-D--related (DRw) antigens in juvenile diabetes mellitus
Diabetes, 1979We studied the distribution of HLA-D–related (DRw) antigens in 40 patients with juvenile diabetes mellitus (JDM) and 79 matched controls. We found that DRw2 was significantly decreased in the JDM group, suggesting a protective effect of the antigen and that the decrease observed in B7 was secondary.

HLA-D related (DR) antigens in various kinds of myositis
Human Immunology, 1981Forty-eight patients with various kinds of myositis were studied for HLA-A, B, C, and DR antigens and compared to both local and 7th International Workshop controls. No A, B, or C antigens were increased except for B8 in white patients (7/13 or 54%) (p = 0.005, pc = NS) and for B7 in black patients (6/9 or 67%) (p = 0.02, pc = NS).
