Aberrant HLA-DR expression in the conjunctival epithelium after autologous serum treatment in patients with graft-versus-host disease or Sjögren's syndrome.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2020
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of autologous serum (AS) eye drops on the density of human leucocyte antigen (HLA)-DR-positive epithelial cells and Langerhans cells on the ocular surface of patients with bilateral severe dry eye disease

Assessing the viability of genebanked seeds from rare, wild plants native to the United States using the D.E.A.D. paradigm

open access: yesApplications in Plant Sciences, EarlyView.
Abstract Premise Genebanks must maintain viable seeds for decades. Seeds that germinate are clearly alive, but some seeds, often from wild populations, do not germinate because they are dormant, empty, aged, or damaged (D.E.A.D.). This work evaluates the effects of D.E.A.D.

A Phase 2 Trial of Hydroxychloroquine in Individuals at Risk for Rheumatoid Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Individuals with serum elevations of anti–cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti‐CCP) antibodies are at increased risk for future rheumatoid arthritis (RA). No pharmacologic interventions have been approved for the prevention of RA in such at‐risk individuals.

Interleukin‐5, Eosinophils, and Interleukin‐5 Pathway Inhibitors in Eosinophilic Granulomatosis With Polyangiitis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Interlukin‐5 (IL‐5) plays a crucial role in the pathogenesis of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) by promoting eosinophil differentiation, activation, and survival. We present here a typical case of EGPA in which treatment with IL‐5 pathway inhibitors is prescribed, showing to be beneficial for the patient.

HLA-DR alpha 2 mediates negative signalling via binding to Tirc7 leading to anti-inflammatory and apoptotic effects in lymphocytes in vitro and in vivo.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2008
Classically, HLA-DR expressed on antigen presenting cells (APC) initiates lymphocyte activation via presentation of peptides to TCR bearing CD4+ T-Cells.

Distinct Effects of Complement C4A and C4B Copy Numbers in Systemic Sclerosis Serological and Clinical Subtypes

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Complement component 4 (C4), encoded by C4A and C4B within the major histocompatibility complex (MHC) on chromosome 6, regulates the immune response and clears immune complexes. The variable copy number (CN) of C4 genes and retroviral human endogenous retrovirus K (HERV‐K) element influence its function.

Exposure to Occupational Inhalants and the Risk of Developing Rheumatoid Arthritis: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by joint pain, swelling, and stiffness. Although smoking is a well‐established risk factor for RA, the role of occupational inhalants in RA development is less well recognized.
