Impact of Co‐Morbid Immunocompromise in HPV‐Associated Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Among patients with surgically resected Human Papillomavirus positive (HPV+) oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC), immunocompromised patients had significantly worse overall survival compared to the non‐compromised group; however, these exploratory findings should be interpreted cautiously.

Effects of NDURE on Timely Adjuvant Radiotherapy in HNSCC: Subgroup Analysis of an RCT

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
In this subgroup analysis of a randomized clinical trial of 145 patients with locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma, the enhanced navigation‐based intervention NDURE improved initiation of timely postoperative radiation therapy (PORT) relative to usual care across nearly all demographic and clinical subgroups, including patients with ...

Bilateral Ophthalmoplegia After Neoadjuvant Pembrolizumab for Oral Cavity Squamous Cell Carcinoma

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The role of immune checkpoint inhibition (ICI) therapy in the treatment of head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is expanding with increased utilization of neoadjuvant and adjuvant pembrolizumab in the setting of locally advanced disease. This report describes the presentation and management of the first known case of pembrolizumab‐induced ...

Accelerated Biological Aging Increases the Risk of Head and Neck Cancer: Insights From Genetic Instruments of Epigenetic Clocks

open access: yesMolecular Carcinogenesis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Epigenetic clocks are robust biomarkers of biological aging and have been associated with cancer susceptibility. However, the relationship between genetically predicted epigenetic age acceleration and head and neck cancer risk remains unclear. Using a large case‐control study of 2189 head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) cases and 2189

Margin Status and Local Recurrence in Early‐Stage Oral‐Cavity Squamous Cell Carcinoma: Analysis of Reresection Outcomes

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective To assess the impact of surgical margin status and re‐resection on local recurrence (LR) in early‐stage oral cavity squamous cell carcinoma (OCSCC). Study Design Retrospective analysis of 352 patients with cT1‐2N0 OCSCC. Setting Tertiary care center from 2005 to 2024.

Nurse Navigation on Time to Postoperative Radiation Therapy after Transoral Robotic Surgery for Oropharyngeal Carcinoma

open access: yesOtolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Postoperative radiation therapy (PORT) initiation within 6 weeks of surgery is associated with improved oncologic outcomes in head and neck cancer, but delays remain common. Oncology nurse navigators (ONN) may improve care coordination.

RNA‐binding protein RBMS1: A new target for cancer diagnosis and treatment

open access: yesPrecision Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
This schematic illustrates the diverse regulatory roles of RNA‐binding motif single‐stranded interacting protein 1 (RBMS1) across multiple human cancers. In breast cancer, RBMS1 stabilizes B4GALT1 mRNA to promote PD‐L1 glycosylation, modulating tumor immune escape and immunotherapy efficacy.

COX5A promotes cell progression and cisplatin‐resistance by alleviating mitochondrial dysfunction in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesPrecision Medical Sciences, EarlyView.
COX5A promotes cell progression and cisplatin‐resistance and alleviates mitochondrial dysfunction. ISG15 shows a reversing role with COX5A. Targeting the COX5A‐mediated mitochondrial metabolic pathway may offer a novel therapeutic approach to enhance cisplatin sensitivity in HNSCC.

Safety, efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and mechanisms of novel 10B‐boronophenylalanine combined with a radio‐frequency quadrupole accelerator in boron neutron capture therapy: A preclinical study in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesPrecision Radiation Oncology, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that the novel 10B‐BPA‐based BNCT system, combined with an RFQ accelerator, effectively targets head and neck squamous cell carcinoma. It induces tumor regression safely and efficiently by triggering DNA damage and activating the ROS/HIF‐1α/NF‐κB pathway, leading to caspase‐3‐mediated apoptosis.

Tumor suppressor ACER1 correlates with prognosis and Immune Infiltration in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesScientific Reports
Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is notorious for poor prognoses, and effective biomarkers are urgently needed for early diagnosis of HNSCC patients.
