The roles of ISL1 and LHX3 in the development of spinal motor neurons have been well established. Whereas LHX3 triggers differentiation into interneurons, the additional expression of ISL1 in developing neuronal cells is sufficient to redirect their ...

Structure of the even‐skipped homeodomain complexed to AT‐rich DNA: new perspectives on homeodomain specificity. [PDF]
even-skipped is a homeobox gene important in controlling segment patterning in the embryonic fruit fly. Its homeobox encodes a DNA binding domain which binds with similar affinities to two DNA consensus sequences, one AT-rich, the other GC-rich.

Abstract Background Developmental control of jaw size is crucial to prevent birth defects and facilitate evolutionary adaptation. We have shown that jaw size is established by neural crest mesenchyme (NCM), which are progenitor cells that migrate into the mandibular primordia and produce the jaws.

Unconventional Secretion, Gate to Homeoprotein Intercellular Transfer
Unconventional secretion allows for the secretion of fully mature and biologically active proteins mostly present in the cytoplasm or nucleus. Besides extra vesicle-driven secretion, non-extravesicular pathways also exist that specifically rely on the ...

Somatic cell reprogramming for Parkinson's disease treatment
The fundamental purpose of cell reprogramming to treat Parkinson's disease is to generate dopaminergic neurons (DAN) and do transplantation. There are two ways to accomplish this. One method is to induce cells into induced DA neurons (iDAN) directly or to induce cells into induced pluripotent stem cells and ultimately into iDAN in vitro. Another option

The homeodomain transcription factor Phox2 in the stellate ganglion of the squid Loligo pealei
Homeodomain transcription factors regulate development of embryos and cellular physiology in adult systems. Paired-type homeodomain genes constitute a subclass that has been particularly implicated in establishment of neuronal identity in the mammalian ...

Homeodomain-interacting Protein Kinases, a Novel Family of Co-repressors for Homeodomain Transcription Factors [PDF]
A novel family of cofactors that differentially interact with homeoproteins have been identified via a yeast two-hybrid screen. The proteins contain a conserved protein kinase domain that is separated from a domain that interacts with homeoproteins and hence are termed homeodomain-interacting protein kinases (HIPKs): HIPK1, HIPK2, and HIPK3.

Climate change demands accelerated plant adaptation and de novo domestication. Yet current enviromics focuses disproportionately on external environments, neglecting internal dynamics—gene expression, metabolic flux, and signal transduction—within predictive envirotyping frameworks.

Abstract Objectives Exclusive enteral nutrition (EEN) is the first‐line treatment for pediatric Crohn's disease, but its mechanisms of action remain poorly understood. Our aim was to identify the mechanisms that could explain the anti‐inflammatory effects of EEN, studying the nutritional composition and transforming growth factor‐β (TGF‐β) effects, in ...

Fusion Gene KMT2A::SEPTIN6 in Acute Myeloid Leukemia Cell Line KOPM-88
(1) Background: KMT2A (alias MLL) is located at chromosome 11q23 and encodes histone methyltransferase 2A which activates target genes via chromatin methylation of histone H3 lysine K4.
