HIPK2 and extrachromosomal histone H2B are separately recruited by Aurora-B for cytokinesis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Cytokinesis, the final phase of cell division, is necessary to form two distinct daughter cells with correct distribution of genomic and cytoplasmic materials.

Ancient mechanisms for the evolution of the bicoid homeodomain's function in fly development

open access: yeseLife, 2018
The ancient mechanisms that caused developmental gene regulatory networks to diversify among distantly related taxa are not well understood. Here we use ancestral protein reconstruction, biochemical experiments, and developmental assays of transgenic ...

Improving Hox protein classification across the major model organisms.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2010
The family of Hox-proteins has been a major focus of research for over 30 years. Hox-proteins are crucial to the correct development of bilateral organisms, however, some uncertainty remains as to which Hox-proteins are functionally equivalent across ...

The T-cell oncogenic protein HOX11 activates Aldh1 expression in NIH 3T3 cells but represses its expression in mouse spleen development [PDF]

open access: yes, 1998
Hox11 is a homeobox gene essential for spleen formation in mice, since atrophy of the anlage of a developing spleen occurs in early embryonic development in Hox11 null mice.

Proximity labeling identifies a repertoire of site-specific R-loop modulators

open access: yesNature Communications, 2022
R-loops are three-stranded nucleic acid structures that contribute to genome instability and accumulate in neurological diseases. Here the authors identify R-loop proximal factors, which are enriched for zinc finger and homeodomain proteins, including ...

Molecular and cellular mechanisms of adipogenesis

open access: yesСахарный диабет, 2015
The main components of metabolic syndrome include insulin resistance, hypertriglyceridemia and arterial hypertension. Obesity is the cause of metabolic syndrome, mainly as a consequence of the endocrine function of adipose tissue.

Oakleaf: an S locus-linked mutation of Primula vulgaris that affects leaf and flower development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
•In Primula vulgaris outcrossing is promoted through reciprocal herkogamy with insect-mediated cross-pollination between pin and thrum form flowers. Development of heteromorphic flowers is coordinated by genes at the S locus.

A look at life from the homeodomain [PDF]

open access: yesEMBO reports, 2006
ThisThis workshop brought together developmental biologists and oncologists for three intense days of discussions about the recent progress that has been made on the roles of homeodomain proteins in development, haematopoiesis and leukaemogenesis.

Homeodomain-interacting Protein Kinases, a Novel Family of Co-repressors for Homeodomain Transcription Factors [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1998
A novel family of cofactors that differentially interact with homeoproteins have been identified via a yeast two-hybrid screen. The proteins contain a conserved protein kinase domain that is separated from a domain that interacts with homeoproteins and hence are termed homeodomain-interacting protein kinases (HIPKs): HIPK1, HIPK2, and HIPK3.

Mapping and Functional Role of Phosphorylation Sites in the Thyroid Transcription Factor-1 (TTF-1) [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
The phosphorylation of thyroid transcription factor-1 (TTF-1), a homeodomain-containing transcription factor that is required for thyroid-specific expression of the thyroglobulin and thyroperoxidase gene promoters, has been studied.
