TREATMENT OF GROWTH-HORMONE DEFICIENCY WITH GROWTH-HORMONE-RELEASING HORMONE
18 prepubertal growth-hormone (GH)-deficient children were treated with twice-daily subcutaneous injections of a growth-hormone-releasing hormone analogue, GHRH (1-29) NH2. In 12 of the children the height velocity rose on GHRH treatment, and 8 were judged to have shown a worthwhile response to therapy in that their height velocities during the first 6

A conserved fungal effector disturbs Ca2+ sensing and ROS homeostasis to induce plant cell death
Acting as a major Ca2+ sensor, calmodulin (CaM) activates target proteins to regulate a variety of cellular processes. Here, we report that CaM–target binding is disturbed by a fungal virulence effector PdCDIE1 (Penicillium digitatum Cell Death-Inducing ...

Linking Mitochondria to Synapses: New Insights for Stress-Related Neuropsychiatric Disorders
The brain evolved cellular mechanisms for adapting synaptic function to energy supply. This is particularly evident when homeostasis is challenged by stress.

The impact of frailty syndrome on skeletal muscle histology: preventive effects of exercise
Frailty syndrome exacerbates skeletal muscle degeneration via increased ECM deposition and myofiber loss. This study, using a murine model, demonstrates that endurance exercise attenuates these histopathological alterations, preserving muscle integrity. Findings support exercise as a viable strategy to counteract frailty‐induced musculoskeletal decline

Chemometrics-aided Surface-enhanced Raman spectrometric detection and quantification of GH and TE hormones in blood [PDF]
This work explores the use of Surface-Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) combined with artificial neural network (ANN) models to detect and quantify growth hormone (GH) and testosterone (TE) in the blood of Sprague Dawley (SD) rats. SERS spectra were recorded from blood samples of SD rats injected with GH, TE, both hormones, and non-injected controls ...

Stress hormones predict hyperbolic time-discount rates six months later in adults [PDF]
Objectives: Stress hormones have been associated with temporal discounting. Although time-discount rate is shown to be stable over a long term, no study to date examines whether individual differences in stress hormones could predict individuals' time-discount rates in the relatively distant future (e.g., six month later), which is of interest in ...
