High pressure effects on the activities of cathepsins B and D of mackerel and horse mackerel muscle [PDF]
We determined high pressure processing (HPP) effects on the activities of cathepsins B and D in the muscles of mackerel (Scomber scombrus) and horse mackerel (Trachurus trachurus).

Comprehensive Evaluation of Mathematical Models Used in the Thin-Layer Cold Dried Foods. [PDF]
This study comprehensively evaluates the statistical criteria applied in mathematical models in thin layer drying of foods. As a functional sensitive food, fish was used in different sample thicknesses with high air velocity and cold drying. It was concluded that only r, R2, χ2 and RMSE equations were sufficient in the evaluation of mathematical models.

Long-Term Changes in the Winter Diet of Common Dolphins Reflects Ecological Shifts and Bycatch Dynamics in the Bay of Biscay. [PDF]
First study investigating temporal changes in the diet of the common dolphin (Delphinus delphis) in the Bay of Biscay between 1999 and 2019, we found that the diet of the common dolphin remained mainly composed of small energy‐rich fish species. However, we observed a shift in minor prey from upper slopes habitats to coastal waters reflecting a shift ...

Species acclimatization pathways: Latitudinal shifts and timing adjustments to track ocean warming
Poleward distributional shifts and phenological adjustments are universal ecological responses to ocean warming. Though they are commonly addressed as independent processes, phenology usually depends on the latitudinal location where an organism lives ...

Pathogenic bacteria load and safety of retail marine fish
This study was conducted to determine the pathogenic bacteria load of 14 species of marine fish obtained from two suppliers (in Bitlis city, Turkey), which provide fish for fish markets, and to reveal the safety of the marine fish in terms of ...

Understanding the Dynamics of Ancillary Pelagic Species in the Adriatic Sea
The status of fishery resources in the Mediterranean Sea is critical: most of the fish and shellfish stocks are in overexploitation and only half of them are routinely assessed.

Measuring Peripheral Tissue DHA Turnover Using a Novel 13C Enrichment Technique. [PDF]
ABSTRACT Recently, through the use of compound‐specific isotope analysis (CSIA), our lab validated the utility of 13C enrichment (δ13C) of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) by using a very high δ13C in a diet switch study by measuring brain, liver, and plasma DHA turnover and half‐lives via high‐precision gas chromatography combustion isotope ratio mass ...

Fecundity regulation in horse mackerel [PDF]
Abstract Egg production methods have been used successfully in the provision of advice for fisheries management. These methods need accurate and unbiased estimates of fecundity. We explore the reproductive strategy of horse mackerel and estimation of fecundity.
