The Role of Carbon Dioxide in Host-Finding by Mosquitoes (Diptera: Culicidae): A Review [PDF]
\ud From a critical review of the literature, it is concluded that the role of carbon dioxide in host-seeking by mosquitoes comprises two distinct actions.

This study reveals that the small GTPase Rab14 is necessary for human papillomavirus (HPV) infection and plays an essential role in the transport of virions to the trans‐Golgi network (TGN). HPV in the early endosome (EE), which harbors GTP‐bound Rab14, is transported to the TGN through the switch of Rab14 from its GTP‐bound to GDP‐bound form.

Host specificity and genetics of host resistance in the "Daphnia-Pasteuria" host-parasite system [PDF]
Antagonistic coevolution plays an important role in a large number of evolutionary and ecological phenomena. Furthermore, according to the Red Queen Theory coevolution between hosts and their parasites may explain the maintenance of sexual reproduction ...

We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...

Revenge of the host: Cannibalism, ontogenetic niche shifts, and the evolution of life-history strategies in host-parasitoid systems [PDF]
Question: How does cannibalism in the host alter the evolution of a parasitoid’s oviposition strategy? Can differences in cannibalism risk between parasitized vs. healthy hosts alter the stage foraging of parasitoids?

Proteostasis and the gut microbiota play a key role in shaping host physiology. Microbiota‐derived metabolites, vitamins, and RNA modulate host proteostasis. Findings from model systems, including C. elegans, indicate microbes can either stabilize or disrupt host proteostasis.

Regulation of expression of unintegrated and integrated HIV-1 DNA: keeping the wolves at bay
The unintegrated HIV-1 DNAs formed by reverse transcription in the early hours after infection are subject to profound transcriptional silencing. The repression of expression of foreign DNA, as an aspect of the innate immune system, serves to restrict ...

Structural insights and therapeutic targets in Acinetobacter baumannii capsule biosynthesis
Hypervirulent KL49 A. baumannii's capsular polysaccharide contains the nonulosonic acid 8‐epi‐Leg5,7Ac2, synthesized by epimerization via ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC. Crystal structures of ElaA, ElaB, and ElaC reveal their role in CMP‐Leg5,7Ac2 synthesis and regioselective C8 epimerization.
