AI–Guided 4D Printing of Carnivorous Plants–Inspired Microneedles for Accelerated Wound Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents an artificial intelligence (AI)‐guided 4D‐printed microneedle platform inspired by carnivorous plants for wound healing. A thermo‐responsive shape memory polymer enables body temperature–triggered self‐coiling for autonomous wound closure.

Effects of Helicobacter pylori Water Extract on Expression of Endothelial Adhesion Molecules

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology, 2004
The present study investigated whether Helicobacter pylori water extract induces the upregulation of intercellular adhesion molecule-1, vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 and E-selectin on human umbilical vein endothelial cells, using an ELISA. The nature

LIM Domain Only 2 Regulates Endothelial Proliferation, Angiogenesis, and Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2016
BackgroundLIM domain only 2 (LMO2, human gene) is a key transcription factor that regulates hematopoiesis and vascular development. However, its role in adult endothelial function has been incompletely characterized. Methods and ResultsIn vitro loss‐ and

Conductive Hydrogels for Exogenous Sensing and Cell Fate Control

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
We engineer electrically conductive hydrogels by combining sulfated glycosaminoglycans with semiconducting polymers. These hydrogels bind bioactive proteins, including growth factors, whose release or retention can be modulated by low‐voltage stimulation. The hydrogels are also integrated as 3D channels in organic electrochemical transistors as part of

Activation of Endothelial Cells by Antiphospholipid Antibodies—A Possible Mechanism Triggering Thrombosis in Patients with Antiphospholipid Syndrome

open access: yesKaohsiung Journal of Medical Sciences, 2006
Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is an antibody-mediated hypercoagulable state characterized by recurrent venous and arterial thromboembolic events. The presence of serum antibodies are collectively termed as antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) and is the ...

Enterococcus faecalis internalization in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC)

open access: yesMicrobial Pathogenesis, 2013
Initial Enterococcus faecalis-endothelial cell molecular interactions which lead to enterococci associating in the host endothelial tissue, colonizing it and proliferating there can be assessed using in vitro models. Cultured human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) have been used to study other Gram-positive bacteria-cell interactions; however ...

Nitric Oxide‐Generating Poly (allylamine hydrochloride) Coating on Biomedical Titanium Implant

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
We report a metal‐free, nitric oxide (NO)‐generating coating in which poly(allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) is covalently immobilized onto titanium. The coating catalyzes NO generation from the endogenous S‐nitrosothiol GSNO, retains activity after multiple reuse cycles and pH exposures, and maintains endothelial cell viability while modulating ...

A novel Mutein of TNFα Containing the Arg-Gly-Asp Sequence Shows Reduced Toxicity in Intestine

open access: yesMediators of Inflammation, 1994
The effects of human tumour necrosis factor-α (TNFα), or its mutein (F4168) having the cell adhesive Arg-Gly-Asp sequence at the N-terminus, on intestinal injury, were examined.

Piper sarmentosum increases nitric oxide production in oxidative stress: a study on human umbilical vein endothelial cells

open access: yesClinics, 2010
OBJECTIVE: Nitric oxide produced by endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) possesses multiple anti-atherosclerotic properties. Hence, enhanced expression of eNOS and increased Nitric oxide levels may protect against the development of atherosclerosis ...
