The First Total Synthesis of (±)-Huperzine B
The Journal of Organic Chemistry, 1997Huperzine B, a new Lycopodium alkaloid, exhibits a memory facilitating effect in mice and may be useful as an acetylcholinesterase inhibitor for the treatment of Alzheimer's disease. An efficient synthetic approach to huperzine B has been established successfully.

Ginkgolide A, B, and huperzine A inhibit nitric oxide-induced neurotoxicity
International Immunopharmacology, 2002Nitric oxide (NO) is believed to play important roles in neuronal degeneration. In this study, the effects of NO on cell growth and apoptosis have been examined in human neuroblastoma cell line SK-N-SH. Sodium nitroprusside (SNP), a NO donor, was found to significantly inhibit cell growth and to induce apoptosis. The inhibitory and apoptotic activities

Bis-huperzine B: Highly Potent and Selective Acetylcholinesterase Inhibitors
Journal of Medicinal Chemistry, 2005By targeting dual active sites of AChE, a series of bis-huperzine B analogues with various lengths of the tether were designed, synthesized, and tested for their inhibition and selectivity. The most potent bis-huperzine B (5g) exhibited 3900-fold increase in AChE inhibition and 930-fold greater in selectivity for AChE vs BuChE than its parent huperzine

Biotransformation of Huperzine B by a Fungal Endophyte of Huperzia serrata
Chemistry & Biodiversity, 2019AbstractThe biotransformation of huperzine B (hupB), one of the characteristic bioactive constituents of the medicinal plant Huperzia serrata, by a fungal endophyte of the host plant was studied. One new compound, 8α,15α‐epoxyhuperzine B (1), along with two known oxygenated hupB analogs, 16‐hydroxyhuperzine B (2) and carinatumin B (3), was isolated and

Huperzine A (HupA) and Huperzine B (HupB) are natural alkaloids existed in Lycopodium plants. They both have potential clinical application for treating Alzheimer's Disease (AD). For the purpose of better utilizing the limited plant resources, a quick and low cost method to separate and purify HupA and HupB from Huperzia serrata (Thunb.
