Hyaluronan, neural stem cells and tissue reconstruction after acute ischemic stroke. [PDF]
Focal stroke is a disabling disease with lifelong sensory, motor and cognitive impairments. Given the paucity of effective clinical treatments, basic scientists are developing novel options for protection of the affected brain and regeneration of lost ...

Nanozyme‐Integrated Hydrogel Targeting AGEs for Diabetic Osteoarthritis Therapy
A nanozyme–integrated hydrogel (PTC‐MP) exhibiting with mild photothermal effects is constructed, and a “3R” (restrain‐restore‐reinforce) strategy is proposed for diabetic osteoarthritis (DOA) treatment based on advanced glycation end products (AGEs) targeting.

Certain bacterial species target the polysaccharide glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) of animal extracellular matrices for colonization and/or infection. GAGs such as hyaluronan and chondroitin sulfate consist of repeating disaccharide units of uronate and amino

Hyaluronan, a Crucial Regulator of Inflammation
Hyaluronan (HA), a major component of the extracellular matrix (ECM), plays a key role in regulating inflammation. Inflammation is associated with accumulation and turnover of hyaluronan polymers by multiple cell types. Increasingly through the years, HA

Photothermal Transport for Guiding Nanoparticles Through the Vitreous Humor
Nanosecond laser irradiation of the clinically approved dye indocyanine green (ICG) enables light‐guided nanoparticle transport within the vitreous humor. The combined use of ICG and pulsed laser illumination induces localized convection and thermophoresis, directing particles toward illuminated regions.

Peritoneal adhesions after laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery [PDF]
Although laparoscopy has the potential to reduce peritoneal trauma and post-operative peritoneal adhesion formation, only one randomized controlled trial and a few comparative retrospective clinical studies have addressed this issue.

BACKGROUND A glycocalyx envelope consisting of proteoglycans and adhering proteins covers endothelial cells, both the luminal and abluminal surface. We previously demonstrated that short-term loss of integrity of the luminal glycocalyx layer resulted in ...

Cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) in prostate tumors exhibit distinct morphomechanical traits vs normal fibroblasts, including greater stiffness and volume, more elongated stress fibres, and larger and more elongated nuclei. These features, quantified through imaging and real‐time deformability cytometry, correlate with patient outcomes and can be ...

Interactions between CD44 and hyaluronan in leukocyte trafficking
Recruitment of leukocytes from the bloodstream to inflamed tissues requires a carefully regulated cascade of binding interactions between adhesion molecules on leukocytes and endothelial cells. Adhesive interactions between CD44 and hyaluronan have been
