The Impact of Hyaluronan on Tumor Progression in Cutaneous Melanoma

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2022
The incidence of cutaneous melanoma is rapidly increasing worldwide. Cutaneous melanoma is an aggressive type of skin cancer, which originates from malignant transformation of pigment producing melanocytes.

Bidirectional allostery mechanism of catch-bond effect in cell adhesion [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Catch-bonds, whereby noncovalent ligand-receptor interactions are counterintuitively reinforced by tensile forces, play a major role in cell adhesion under mechanical stress. A basic prerequisite for catch-bond formation is that force-induced remodeling of ligand binding interface occurs prior to bond rupture.

Biphasic Granular Bioinks for Biofabrication of High Cell Density Constructs for Dermal Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a biphasic granular bioink (µInk) that enables 3D bioprinting of high cell density constructs for dermal regeneration. The bioink promotes cell proliferation, ECM deposition, and neovascularization, leading to tissue integration and reduced scar formation in vivo.

Hyaluronan Does Not Affect Bupivacaine’s Inhibitory Action on Voltage-Gated Potassium Channel Activities in Bovine Articular Chondrocytes

open access: yesAdvances in Orthopedics, 2012
Objectives. The objective of this paper is to determine if hyaluronan affects bupivacaine’s anesthetic function. Methods. Whole cell patch clamp recordings were performed on bovine articular chondrocytes cultured in 60 mm dishes.

Hydrocellular foam dressing promotes wound healing along with increases in hyaluronan synthase 3 and PPARα gene expression in epidermis. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
BackgroundHydrocellular foam dressing, modern wound dressing, induces moist wound environment and promotes wound healing: however, the regulatory mechanisms responsible for these effects are poorly understood. This study was aimed to reveal the effect of

Ultrasonic and Densitometric Characterization of Hyaluronan and its Interaction with Surfactant [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
This disertation thesis is focused on the study of physico-chemical interactions of hyaluronan (with molecular weights from 10 to 1750 kDa) with cationic surfactants measured using uncommon technique named high resolution ultrasonic spectroscopy ...

Hydrogel‐Mediated Preservation of Live Tumor Explants for Drug Development in Peritoneal Metastases

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a hyaluronan‐based hydrogel platform preserving the native tumor microenvironment (morphology, tissue composition, histology) of patient‐derived explants from peritoneal metastases, enabling clinically relevant drug screening. Hydrogel properties such as stiffness and degradation are crucial for longer‐term histoculture.

HIV infection is associated with elevated biomarkers of immune activation in Ugandan adults with pneumonia. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
IntroductionPneumonia is an important cause of morbidity and mortality in persons living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection. How immune activation differs among HIV-infected and HIV-uninfected adults with pneumonia is unknown.MethodsThe ...

Mussel‐Inspired Molecular Strategies for Fabricating Functional Materials With Underwater Adhesion and Self‐Healing Properties

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
This review systematically examines the nanomechanical mechanisms of mussel‐inspired molecular interactions, primarily investigated by direct force measurement techniques such as surface forces apparatus and atomic force microscopy. The macroscopic adhesive and self‐healing performances of mussel‐inspired functional materials, including coacervates ...
