True nature of hybrid work

open access: yesFrontiers in Organizational Psychology
IntroductionThis article reviews the discussion concerning hybrid work (HW) during and after the pandemic. We argue that understanding hybrid work as simply dividing working time between an office and another location limits the potential of organizing ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Variations of work engagement and psychological distress based on three working modalities during the COVID-19 pandemic

open access: yesFrontiers in Public Health, 2023
With the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, the rapid spread of the SARS-CoV-2 virus became a global health threat affecting people’s mental and physical health, as well as working conditions and modalities.

Generation of optimal trajectories for Earth hybrid pole sitters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
A pole-sitter orbit is a closed path that is constantly above one of the Earth's poles, by means of continuous low thrust. This work proposes to hybridize solar sail propulsion and solar electric propulsion (SEP) on the same spacecraft, to enable such a ...

Modeling hepatic fibrosis in TP53 knockout iPSC‐derived human liver organoids

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study developed iPSC‐derived human liver organoids with TP53 gene knockout to model human liver fibrosis. These organoids showed elevated myofibroblast activation, early disease markers, and advanced fibrotic hallmarks. The use of profibrotic differentiation medium further amplified the fibrotic signature seen in the organoids.

Scalable Ion Trap Quantum Computing without Moving Ions

open access: yes, 2004
A hybrid quantum computing scheme is studied where the hybrid qubit is made of an ion trap qubit serving as the information storage and a solid-state charge qubit serving as the quantum processor, connected by a superconducting cavity.

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Global trends in work location, before, during, and after COVID-19: office, home, hybrid, and nomad

open access: yesUrban, Planning and Transport Research
The COVID-19 pandemic led to a sudden shift to digital remote work for most office workers worldwide. This article aims to survey and interpret global data on the shares of four workplace location options that have been adopted since the pandemic ...

Hybridization of a Mobile Work Machine [PDF]

open access: yesWorld Electric Vehicle Journal, 2009
Interest to hybridize mobile work machines has increased substantially during ongoing decade. Reasons for increasing interest are mainly tightening emission regulations and trend of rising fuel prices. To get better understanding for the benefits of hybridization, Helsinki University of Technology (TKK) has started 5 years project to research different

Double hybrid density-functional theory using the Coulomb-attenuating method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A double hybrid approximation using the Coulomb-attenuating method (CAM-DH) is derived within range-separated density-functional perturbation theory, in the spirit of a recent work by Cornaton {\it et al.} [Phys. Rev. A 88, 022516 (2013)].
