Active Chlorine Antiseptics in Wound Care: Recent Advances and Perspectives for Military Medicine

open access: yesAPMIS, Volume 134, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT The spread of multidrug‐resistant microorganisms remains a major global challenge that continues to worsen. Modern military conflicts intensify this problem by forcing healthcare systems to manage large numbers of patients with complex, heavily contaminated injuries in resource‐limited settings.

A comparative study of the cis and trans isomers of two hydantoin compounds with anticonvulsant potency

open access: yesCurrent Research in Biotechnology
Hydantoins are a class of compounds renowned for their diverse medical applications, particularly in neurology. Phenytoin (Dilantin) is one of the most well-known hydantoins, primarily used to stabilize neuronal membranes and prevent the spread of ...

Efflux pump blockers in Gram-negative bacteria:The new generation of hydantoin based-modulators to improve antibiotic activity

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2016
Multidrug resistant (MDR) bacteria are an increasing health problem with the shortage of new active antibiotic agents. Among effective mechanisms that contribute to the spread of MDR Gram-negative bacteria are drug efflux pumps that expel clinically ...

Solvent effects on the structure-property relationship of anticonvulsant hydantoin derivatives: A solvatochromic analysis

open access: yesChemistry Central Journal, 2011
Considering the pharmaceutical importance of hydantoins, a set of 25 derivatives of phenytoin, nirvanol and 5-methyl-5-phenylhydantoin, the lipophilicities of which were gradually increased by the introduction of different alkyl, cycloalkyl and alkenyl ...

Comparative metabolism of hydantoin and beta-methyl hydantoin.

open access: yesExperimental Biology and Medicine, 1926
In previous experiments1 it was pointed out that when betamethyl hydantoin is given subcutaneously to dogs only fifteen per cent of the compound reappears unchanged in the urine. A similar amount is excreted as methyl hydantoic acid. But while all of the nitrogen of the compound was excreted, the remainder was unaccounted for in the nitrogen partition.

Antinociceptive Effect of Hydantoin 3-Phenyl-5-(4-ethylphenyl)-imidazolidine-2,4-dione in Mice

open access: yesMolecules, 2015
Imidazolidine derivatives, or hydantoins, are synthetic compounds with different therapeutic applications. Many imidazolidine derivatives have psychopharmacological properties, such as phenytoin, famous for its anticonvulsant efficacy, but also effective

Mechanism, kinetics and selectivity of selenocyclization of 5-alkenylhydantoins: an experimental and computational study

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2015
The mechanism and selectivity of a bicyclic hydantoin formation by selenium-induced cyclization are investigated. The proposed mechanism involves the intermediates formed by an electrophilic addition of the selenium reagent on a double bond of the ...
