Efficient Trapping and Degradation of Polyethylene Terephthalate Nanoplastics Using Enzyme‐Functionalized Bowl‐Shaped Janus Particles

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 8, August 2026.
A “capture‐and‐degrade” strategy is developed using enzyme‐functionalized bowl‐shaped Janus particles for efficient removal of PET nanoplastics. The hydrophobic concave cavity enables selective trapping of nanoparticles, while immobilized HotPETase‐LCI promotes in situ degradation.

Degradable versus inert microplastics: Effects on soil organic carbon persistence via microbial drivers in an agroecosystem

open access: yesFunctional Ecology, Volume 40, Issue 8, Page 2628-2641, August 2026.
Read the free Plain Language Summary for this article on the Journal blog. Abstract Microplastics (MPs) are widespread in terrestrial ecosystems, raising global concerns that they may disrupt soil organic carbon (SOC) cycling and undermine agroecosystem contributions to climate mitigation.

Towards Sustainable Waste Valorization: A Techno‐Economic Analysis and Life Cycle Assessment for HMF Production From Potato Residues Based on Process Simulation

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, Volume 18, Issue 8, August 2026.
Potato processing residues are valorized into the platform chemical 5‐hydroxymethylfurfural (HMF) using an integrated biorefinery concept. Process simulation, techno‐economic analysis, and life cycle assessment show that scaling and modularity significantly reduce costs and environmental impacts, highlighting waste‐based HMF as a promising route for a ...
