Renal 20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid synthesis during pregnancy [PDF]
We examined whether renal 20-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (20-HETE) synthesis is altered during gestation. Renal microsomal arachidonic acid ω-hydroxylase activity increased by 50 and 48% in rats on days 12 and 19 of gestation, respectively. Renal microvessel 20-HETE synthesis increased by 50 and 82% in rats on days 6 and 12 of gestation, respectively,

Expression and Function of Eicosanoid-Producing Cytochrome P450 Enzymes in Solid Tumors
Oxylipins derived from the oxidation of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) act as important paracrine and autocrine signaling molecules. A subclass of oxylipins, the eicosanoids, have a broad range of physiological outcomes in inflammation, the immune ...

Pleiotropic Functions of Cytochrome P450 Monooxygenase-Derived Eicosanoids in Cancer
Eicosanoids are a class of functionally bioactive lipid mediators derived from the metabolism of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) mediated by multiple enzymes of three main branches, including cyclooxygenases (COXs), lipoxygenases (LOXs ...

Metabolism of oxygenated derivatives of arachidonic acid by Caco-2 cells.
Monolayers of Caco-2 cells, a human enterocyte cell line, were incubated separately with 3H8-labeled preparations of three different lipid mediators of inflammation: 5-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid, 12-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid, and leukotriene B4 ...

Metabolism of 15-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid by Caco-2 cells.
Monolayers of Caco-2 cells, a human enterocyte cell line, were incubated with [1-14C]15-hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid (15-HETE), a lipid mediator of inflammation, and [1-14C]arachidonic acid.

Identification of hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acid components of schistosomal hemozoin [PDF]
During the late stages of Schistosoma mansoni infection, adult schistosomes catabolize host erythrocytic hemoglobin. In order to evade the toxic effects of free heme, the blood fluke biomineralizes dimeric heme into an inert crystalline pigment called hemozoin.

Analysis of HETEs in human whole blood by chiral UHPLC-ECAPCI/HRMS
The biosynthesis of eicosanoids occurs enzymatically via lipoxygenases, cyclooxygenases, and cytochrome P450, or through nonenzymatic free radical reactions. The enzymatic routes are highly enantiospecific.

Prophylactic inhibition of soluble epoxide hydrolase delays onset of nephritis and ameliorates kidney damage in NZB/W F1 mice [PDF]
Epoxy-fatty-acids (EpFAs), cytochrome P450 dependent arachidonic acid derivatives, have been suggested to have anti-inflammatory properties, though their effects on autoimmune diseases like systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have yet to be investigated ...

A high throughput screen identifies potent and selective inhibitors to human epithelial 15-lipoxygenase-2. [PDF]
Lipoxygenase (LOX) enzymes catalyze the hydroperoxidation of arachidonic acid and other polyunsaturated fatty acids to hydroxyeicosatetraenoic acids with varying positional specificity to yield important biological signaling molecules.
