Clinical characteristics of anti‐neurofascin 155 antibody‐positive autoimmune nodopathy in children

open access: yesPediatric Investigation, EarlyView.
Pediatric anti‐neurofascin 155 antibody autoimmune nodopathy was uncommon, featuring distal limb weakness with sensory symptoms. Cerebrospinal fluid protein levels were elevated, and neuroimaging revealed nerve root thickening. As intravenous immunoglobulin was ineffective, early immunosuppressive therapy was recommended.

Temporal changes in the expression of the translocator protein TSPO and the steroidogenic enzyme 5a-reductase in the dorsal spinal cord of animals with neuropathic pain: effects of progesterone administration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Neuropathic pain is a frequent complication of spinal cord injury (SCI), still refractory to conventional treatment. The presence and biological activity of steroidogenic regulatory proteins and enzymes in the spinal cord suggests that neurosteroids ...

1,3,4-Oxadiazole Derivative Attenuates Chronic Constriction Injury Induced Neuropathic Pain: A Computational, Behavioral, and Molecular Approach

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2020
The production and up-regulation of inflammatory mediators are contributing factors for the development and maintenance of neuropathic pain. In the present study, the post-treatment of synthetic 1,3,4 oxadiazole derivative (B3) for its neuroprotective ...

Tramadol Induced Paradoxical Hyperalgesia

open access: yesPain Physician, 2013
Opioids have been the mainstay analgesics for postoperative, cancerous, and chronic noncancerous pain. Common concerns regarding the use of opioids include the development of physical dependence and addiction. However, as a potential complication of opioid therapy, opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH) is often overlooked.

Reliable Neuromorphic and Nociceptive Behavior in Dual‐Stacked IGZO/ZrOX Resistive Random Access Memory for Transparent Memory Applications

open access: yesphysica status solidi (RRL) – Rapid Research Letters, EarlyView.
For the advancement of neuromorphic computing and bio‐integrated electronics, a dual‐stacked ITO/IGZO/ZrO2/Ti resistive random access memory (RRAM) device with oxygen vacancy engineering is demonstrated for reliable synaptic and nociceptive behavior. Gradual potentiation and depression, along with biologically inspired spike‐timing‐dependent plasticity

Pain Perception: Investigating Links Between Pain Transmission and CCK(+) Neurons, with Regard to the Opioid Crisis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
With dependence on opioids, such as codeine, morphine, and heroin, steadily increasing amongst the American public, the withdrawal symptoms associated with disuse are receiving much more attention.

Neuroinflammation, Mast Cells, and Glia: Dangerous Liaisons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The perspective of neuroinflammation as an epiphenomenon following neuron damage is being replaced by the awareness of glia and their importance in neural functions and disorders.

Opioid-Induced Hyperalgesia (OIH)

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Anesthesiology, 2010
Opioids are commonly used for pain control; however, they can cause hyperalgesia. The reason why this can happen is not known. The objective of this review was to describe the mechanisms, factors implicated, and drug modulation. The factors implicated in the development of opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH), such as duration of use, dose, and type of ...

Opioid-induced hyperalgesia in chronic pain patients and the mitigating effects of gabapentin

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology, 2015
Chronic pain patients receiving opioid drugs are at risk for opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH), wherein opioid pain medication leads to a paradoxical pain state.

What is all the noise about pain management? Analgesia in cases of noise fear related to discomfort can reduce the need for extensive training plans

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, EarlyView.
Abstract A 6‐year‐old, male, entire Jack Russell terrier was referred for noise fear and subsequently diagnosed with underlying musculoskeletal discomfort. Significant improvements in the signs were reported by the clients by initially addressing the underlying discomfort using a combination of analgesia (1.7 mg/kg carprofen once a day), environmental ...
