Sleep Deprivation Aggravates Periodontitis Through Trigeminal‐Periodontal Neuroimmune Pathway Mediated by the AChE‐ACh‐α7nAChR Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Sleep deprivation (SD) exacerbates ligature‐induced periodontitis (LIP) through the trigeminal nerve‐periodontal neuroimmune pathway mediated by the acetylcholinesterase (AChE)‐acetylcholine (ACh)‐α7 nicotinic receptor (α7nAChR) axis. While electroacupuncture (EA) alleviates the condition of LIP combined with SD by activating the α7nAChR.

Co-induction of cyclooxyenase-2 and early growth response gene (Egr-1) in spinal cord in a clinical model of persistent inflammation and hyperalgesia

open access: yesMolecular Pain, 2011
Background This study characterised the effects of persistent peripheral inflammation of the foot on pain and spinal cord expression of cyclooxygenase-1 and -2 (COX-1 and COX-2) and early growth response gene 1 (Egr-1), known markers of neuronal ...

Therapeutic Potential of Flavonoids in Pain and Inflammation: Mechanisms of Action, Pre-Clinical and Clinical Data, and Pharmaceutical Development

open access: yesMolecules, 2020
Pathological pain can be initiated after inflammation and/or peripheral nerve injury. It is a consequence of the pathological functioning of the nervous system rather than only a symptom. In fact, pain is a significant social, health, and economic burden

Systemic and Intra-Habenular Activation of the Orphan G Protein-Coupled Receptor GPR139 Decreases Compulsive-Like Alcohol Drinking and Hyperalgesia in Alcohol-Dependent Rats. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
GPR139 is an orphan G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) that is expressed mainly in the brain, with the highest expression in the medial habenula. The modulation of GPR139 receptor function has been hypothesized to be beneficial in the treatment of some ...

Left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation reduces the development of long-term muscle pain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) is involved in the experience and modulation of pain, and may be an important node linking pain and cognition.

The Complement System Component C5a Produces Thermal Hyperalgesia via Macrophage-to-Nociceptor Signaling That Requires NGF and TRPV1

open access: yesJournal of Neuroscience, 2016
The complement cascade is a principal component of innate immunity. Recent studies have underscored the importance of C5a and other components of the complement system in inflammatory and neuropathic pain, although the underlying mechanisms are largely ...

Neuronal Endothelin a Receptor Mediates Experimental and Clinical Vascular Pain through an Endothelial‐Neural Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The authors develop mouse models by mimicking peripheral vascular diseases, combining multiple strategies and transgenic mouse lines, to demonstrate that ECs, but not macrophages or SMCs, play an active role mediated by endothelial ET‐1/neural ETAR signaling and beyond endothelial homeostatic angiocrine by driving protective pain through the ...

Purinergic mechanosensory transduction and visceral pain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
In this review, evidence is presented to support the hypothesis that mechanosensory transduction occurs in tubes and sacs and can initiate visceral pain.

Subjects with Knee Osteoarthritis Exhibit Widespread Hyperalgesia to Pressure and Cold

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2016
Hyperalgesia to mechanical and thermal stimuli are characteristics of a range of disorders such as tennis elbow, whiplash and fibromyalgia. This study evaluated the presence of local and widespread mechanical and thermal hyperalgesia in individuals with ...
