Hyperinsulinemia in glucose intolerance: Is it true?
Journal of Endocrinological Investigation, 1994To evaluate whether beta-cell hyperfunction characterizes glucose intolerant states per se independent of fasting glycemia, we conducted a case-control study among 430 subjects who were classified, by NDGG criteria, as having normal glucose tolerance (n = 230, 130M/130F), nondiagnostic tolerance (NDT, n = 100, 50M/50F) and impaired glucose tolerance ...

Hyperinsulinemia and Triglyceride-Rich Lipoproteins
Diabetes, 1996Hypertriglyceridemia is the most frequent form of hyperlipidemia seen in diabetes. Because hypertriglyceridemia and hyperinsulinemia often coexist in the general population and because patients with NIDDM generally are hyperinsulinemic, we have undertaken a series of in vivo studies to examine the effects of hyperinsulinemia on VLDL production.

Hyperinsulinemia and Macrosomia
New England Journal of Medicine, 1990Macrosomia is a characteristic feature of diabetic pregnancy. The infants of mothers with diabetes mellitus (especially those with poorly controlled insulin-dependent diabetes or gestational diabet...

Acanthosis Nigricans: A Marker for Hyperinsulinemia
Pediatric Dermatology, 1995Abstract: A 12‐year‐old girl developed acanthosis nigricans due to increased levels of serum insulin. Hyperinsuiinemia has been recognized as the underlying cause in most cases of acanthosis nigricans. In this paper we outline a typical clinical case with special regard to the proposed pathogenesis.

Insulin resistance, hyperinsulinemia and hypertension
Journal of Hypertension, 1993Association between insulin resistance and hypertension: Insulin resistance and reactive hyperinsulinemia occur not only with obesity, impaired glucose tolerance or non-insulin-dependent (type 2) diabetes mellitus, but also in many non-obese, non-diabetic patients with essential hypertension and their currently normotensive, lean young offspring and in

Ovarian Dysfunction in Peripubertal Hyperinsulinemia [PDF]
Increasing evidence suggests that hyperinsulinemia plays an important role in the pathogenesis of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). However, the timing for the onset of hyperinsulinemia is not clear. The objective of this study was to examine the effect of peripubertal hyperinsulinemia on the maturing female reproductive axis.Hyperinsulinemia was ...

Hyperinsulinemia in Acute Intermittent Porphyria
Hormone and Metabolic Research, 1985Diabetic oral glucose tolerance test together with hyperinsulinemia in a patient with decompensated acute intermittent porphyria is contrasted to normal findings in compensated acute intermittent porphyria (AIP). Results point to the essential role of insulin for the depression of porphyrin precursor overproduction as a mediator of the "glucose effect".

Insulin resistance and hyperinsulinemia in hypertension
Journal of Hypertension, 1995GENETIC PREDISPOSITION: Insulin resistance and reactive hyperinsulinemia occur not only with obesity, impaired glucose tolerance or non-insulin-dependent (type 2) diabetes mellitus, but also in many non-obese, non-diabetic patients with essential hypertension and their currently normotensive, lean, young offspring, as well as in some other conditions ...

A Case of Leprechaunism With Severe Hyperinsulinemia
Archives of Pediatrics & Adolescent Medicine, 1980This report describes an infant with physical features typical of leprechaunism, including a characteristic facies, hirsutism, and decreased subcutaneous tissue and muscle mass. Intermittent hypoglycemia and severe hyperinsulinemia were documented.

Hyperinsulinemia and VLDL Kinetics
1993The most frequent lipoprotein abnormality in diabetes mellitus is hypertriglyceridemia. The frequency of hypercholesterolemia is not very different from that found in the nondiabetic population.1,2 In those diabetic individuals who are grossly insulin deficient, the hypertriglyceridemia is due to an accumulation of chylomicrons, the primary ...
