Hsp90 Interacts with the Bacterial Effector NleH1
Enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) utilizes a type III secretion system (T3SS) to inject effector proteins into host cells. The EHEC NleH1 effector inhibits the nuclear factor kappa-light-chain-enhancer of activated B cells (NF-κB) pathway by

The rel-associated pp40 protein prevents DNA binding of Rel and NF-kappa B: relationship with I kappa B beta and regulation by phosphorylation. [PDF]
The product of proto-oncogene Rel associates with a number of cellular proteins. We have studied the effect of one of them, a phosphoprotein of 40 kD (pp40), on the DNA-binding activity of the Rel protein. We demonstrate that purified pp40 not only inhibits the binding of Rel, but also NF-kappa B (p50-p65) heterocomplex to DNA.

Estimated glomerular filtration rate is a poor predictor of the concentration of middle molecular weight uremic solutes in chronic kidney disease [PDF]
Background: Uremic solute concentration increases as Glomerular Filtration Rate (GFR) declines. Weak associations were demonstrated between estimated GFR (eGFR) and the concentrations of several small water-soluble and protein-bound uremic solutes ...

On the dephasing of genetic oscillations
The digital nature of genes combined with the associated low copy numbers of proteins regulating them is a significant source of stochasticity, which affects the phase of biochemical oscillations.

Human T-lymphotropic Virus Type I Tax Activates I-κB Kinase by Inhibiting I-κB Kinase-associated Serine/Threonine Protein Phosphatase 2A [PDF]
I-kappa B kinase (IKK) is a serine/threonine kinase that phosphorylates I-kappa B alpha and I-kappa B beta and targets them for polyubiquitination and proteasome-mediated degradation. IKK consists of two highly related catalytic subunits, alpha and beta, and a regulatory gamma subunit, which becomes activated after serine phosphorylation of the ...
