The IGF‐1 receptor in cancer biology

International Journal of Cancer, 2003
AbstractThe type 1 insulin‐like growth factor receptor (IGF‐1R) plays an important role in the establishment and maintenance of the transformed phenotype. It also has a strong antiapoptotic activity and has a significant influence on the control of cell and body size. Downregulation of the IGF‐1R leads to massive apoptosis of cancer cells.

Leukocyte IGF-1 Receptor Expression during Muscle Recovery

Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 2015
The insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) system plays a central role in anabolic cellular processes. Recently, a regulatory role of IGF-1 in the immune response for muscle repair has been suggested, but how it modulates the inflammatory process is largely unknown.

IGF-1 receptor inhibition by picropodophyllin in medulloblastoma

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2010
The insulin-like growth factor-1 receptor (Igf1r) is a multifunctional membrane-associated tyrosine kinase associated with regulation of transformation, proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis. Increased IGF pathway activity has been reported in human and murine medulloblastoma.

Substrate Competitive Inhibitors of IGF-1 Receptor Kinase

Biochemistry, 2000
IGF-1 and its receptor play a pivotal role in many cancers, and therefore, IGF-1R is an attractive target for the design of inhibitors. In this communication, we report on a number of lead compounds for inhibitors of the isolated IGF-1R kinase. The search for these compounds utilized two novel in vitro assays and was aided by the knowledge of the three-

Identification of IGF-1 receptors in primitive vertebrates

Regulatory Peptides, 1993
This is the first report of the existence of insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) receptors in three representatives of lower vertebrates: the osteichtyes, chondrichtyes and cyclostomi. Competitive binding studies and affinity labelling of brain membranes from Cottus scorpius (sea scorpion), Raja clavata (ray) and Myxine glutinosa (atlantic hagfish ...

Molecular IGF-1 and IGF-1 Receptor Defects: From Genetics to Clinical Management

2013
Molecular defects of the insulin-like growth factor 1 gene (IGF1) are rare in the human. Only three homozygous and two families with heterozygous mutations of the IGF1 gene have been described, resulting in a variable degree of intrauterine and postnatal growth retardation, microcephaly, developmental delay and deafness.

S-nitrosylation of the IGF-1 receptor disrupts the cell proliferative action of IGF-1

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2017
The insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) is a disulfide-linked heterotetramer containing two α-subunits and two β-subunits. Earlier studies demonstrate that nitric oxide (NO) can adversely affect IGF-1 action in the central nervous system.
