Evolving concurrent Petri net models of epistasis

open access: yes, 2010
A genetic algorithm is used to learn a non-deterministic Petri netbased model of non-linear gene interactions, or statistical epistasis. Petri nets are computational models of concurrent processes.

IL-1β regulated the expression of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8.

open access: yes, 2023
The expression levels of TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8 were significantly increased after CSE administration, which were downregulated upon IL-1β knockdown.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...

IFN-gamma impairs release of IL-8 by IL-1beta-stimulated A549 lung carcinoma cells [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
Background Production of interferon (IFN)-gamma is key to efficient anti-tumor immunity. The present study was set out to investigate effects of IFNgamma on the release of the potent pro-angiogenic mediator IL-8 by human A549 lung carcinoma cells ...

The GSDMD pores control the NSPs activity and consequently the pro-IL-1β processing or degradation.

open access: yes, 2023
(A-D) Neutrophils were pretreated or not with DSF for 30 min, and then challenged with STEC at MOI 0.5 (A-E) and MOI 50 (A-C). Two hours later they were stained with the FAM-FLISP probe and the percentage of cells with active NSPs was determined by flow ...

Oligomerized CARD16 promotes caspase‐1 assembly and IL‐1β processing

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, 2015
Increasing evidence indicates that caspase recruitment domain (CARD)‐mediated caspase‐1 (CASP1) assembly is an essential process for its activation and subsequent interleukin (IL)‐1β release, leading to the initiation of inflammation.

pH‐mediated activation of the lysosomal arginine sensor SLC38A9

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cells monitor nutrient levels via the lysosomal transporter SLC38A9 to activate the mechanistic target of rapamycin complex 1 (mTORC1). This study reveals that SLC38A9 function is regulated by pH. We identified histidine 544 as a critical pH sensor that undergoes conformational changes to control amino acid efflux from lysosomes; therefore, it ...
