Interleukin-13 (IL-13)

1995
Abstract The mouse IL-13 cDNA (GenBank accession number M23504) encodes a protein of 131 amino acids (Brown eta/. 1989). The human IL-13 (hlL-13) cDNA (GenBank accession No L06801) encodes a protein of 132 amino acids (McKenzie et al. 1993a; Minty eta/. 1993).

IL-13 hits the gym

Science, 2020
Immunometabolism Interleukin-13 (IL-13) is a cytokine secreted by T cells, innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), and granulocytes. It acts as a central mediator in allergy and antihelminth defense with various effects. Knudsen et al. report a distinct role for IL-13 in exercise and metabolism (see the Perspective by Correia and Ruas).

Effect of IL-13 receptor α2 levels on the biological activity of IL-13 variant R110Q

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2007
IL-13 is a key cytokine associated with the asthmatic phenotype. IL-13 signals via its cognate receptor, a complex of IL-13 receptor (IL-13R) alpha 1 chain with IL-4 receptor alpha; however, a second protein, IL-13Ralpha2, also binds IL-13. Recently a polymorphic variant of IL-13 (R110Q) has been shown to be associated with atopy. To investigate the ...

Expression of Recombinant Rat Interleukin-13 (IL-13) and Generation of a Neutralizing Rat IL-13 Antiserum

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1997
Using baculoviral and bacterial systems, we expressed biologically active recombinant rat IL-13 and generated neutralizing rat IL-13 antiserum. Recombinant rat IL-13 produced by baculovirus-infected insect cells stimulated proliferation of TF-1 premyeloid cell line and induced expression of 15-lipoxygenase mRNA in human peripheral blood monocytes ...

Role of IL-13 in systemic sclerosis

Cytokine, 2011
Systemic sclerosis (SSc) has the highest fatality rate among connective tissue diseases and is characterized by vascular damage, inflammation and fibrosis. Currently, no therapy has proven effective in modifying the course of SSc, a reflection of its complex pathogenesis. T cell-derived cytokines have been implicated in the induction of fibrosis.

IL-13 in allergy: home at last

Current Opinion in Immunology, 1999
The immune response to allergic challenge is thought to include important effects mediated by cytokines. Of considerable interest to immunologists and parasitologists is the distinction between two closely related cytokines, IL-4 and IL-13. Although overlapping functions are inevitable, studies over the past year reveal a distinct role for IL-13 in ...

Effect of IL-13 and IL-13 blocker (mIL-13Rα2) on airway smooth muscle (ASM)

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2004
Abstract Rationale The cytokine IL-13 plays an important role in inducing features of asthma including airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR). We previously reported the effect of IL-13 and mIL-13Rα2 on AHR in vivo (ATS, 2003). The purpose for this study is to determine the effect of IL-13 and mIL-13Rα2 on ASM function in vitro.

IL-13 and the IL-13 receptor as therapeutic targets for asthma and allergic disease.

Current opinion in investigational drugs (London, England : 2000), 2010
It is widely accepted that T-helper 2 cell (Th2) cytokines play an important role in the maintenance of asthma and allergy. Emerging evidence has highlighted the role of IL-13 in the pathogenesis of these diseases. In particular, IL-13 is involved in the regulation of IgE synthesis, mucus hypersecretion, subepithelial fibrosis and eosinophil ...
