Cloning and characterization of rhesus IL-18 binding protein, a natural antagonist to IL-18
Cytokine, 2010IL-18 is a proinflammatory cytokine that is important for host defense, but is also involved in the pathogenesis of a number of disease processes, ranging from autoimmune disorders to atherosclerosis. IL-18 binding protein (IL-18BP) is a constitutively expressed glycoprotein that specifically neutralizes the effects of IL-18, resulting in decreased ...

To see whether the interleukin (IL)-18 system is operative in the endometrium, we examined the expression of IL-18, IL-18 receptor (IL-18R) and IL-18 binding protein (IL-18BP), the substance known to neutralize IL-18 activity, in this tissue. Reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction analyses showed that IL-18, IL-18R and IL-18BP mRNA were ...

Radiation Research, 2016
We have previously reported that circulating interleukin-18 (IL-18) can be used as a radiation biomarker in mice, minipigs and nonhuman primates. In this study, we further determined the serum levels of IL-18 binding protein (IL-18BP), a natural endogenous antagonist of IL-18, in CD2F1 mice 1-13 days after total-body gamma irradiation (TBI) with ...

Development of Isoform-specific Monoclonal Antibodies Against Human IL-18 Binding Protein
Hybridoma, 2010Interleukin-18 binding protein (IL-18BP) is a soluble antagonist of IL-18 originally discovered while attempting to isolate a soluble receptor by using IL-18-ligand affinity column. IL-18BP has four isoforms (a, b, c, and d) in humans and two isoforms (c and d) in mice.

Abstract We have previously demonstrated increased levels of soluble interferon-γ receptor (SIFN-γR) and interferon-γ (IFN-γ) in pts with acute GVHD post SCT. IL-18 is an obligatory cytokine for IFN-γ production, while IL-18BP is an inhibitor of IL-18 mediated induction of IFN-γ. We have now studied IL-18 and IL-18BP levels in pts undergoing SCT.

Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a fatal parenchymal lung disease with limited effective therapies. Interleukin (IL)-18 belongs to a rather large IL-1 gene family and is a proinflammatory cytokine, which acts in both acquired and innate immunity.

Objective To investigate the changes of interleukin-18 (IL-18), interleukin 18 binding protein (IL-18BP) and interleukin 18 receptor (IL-18R) expressions in eosinophil-enriched cells from asthmatic patients, and study the correlations among them. Methods Peripheral venous blood from asthmatic patients and normal subjects were collected and stimulated ...

Abstract IL-18 is a multifunctional pro-inflammatory cytokine belonging to the IL-1 family. The cytokine is known to be produced from macrophages, dendritic cells, keratinocytes, adrenal cortex etc in the human body. We found that the cytokine as well as its antagonist, IL-18 Binding Protein (IL-18BP), are produced in human platelets ...
