Interleukin-18 (IL-18) is a powerful and important cytokine in myocarditis. IL-18-binding protein (IL-18BP), a naturally occurring antagonist of IL-18, is presumed to play a vital regulatory function in IL-18-mediated immune responses. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the alterations of IL-18 and its related protein expressions and the effect ...

Patients with aortic stenosis (AS) develop left ventricular remodeling characterized by changes in extracellular matrix (ECM) and cardiomyocyte-hypertrophy. Aortic valve replacement (AVR) reverses this process (reverse remodeling). We examined plasma levels of interleukin-18 (IL-18) and its binding protein (IL-18BP) before and after AVR for AS since ...

Up-regulation of IL-18BP, but not IL-18 mRNA in rat liver by LPS
Cytokine, 2003Interleukin (IL)-18 is a pro-inflammatory cytokine that plays a critical role in inflammation leading to liver damage, through promotion of Fas-mediated apoptosis. Inhibition of IL-18 activity protects against LPS-induced lethality in mice and against liver damage induced by LPS after sensitisation of mice with Proprionibacterium acnes.

Elevated Il-37, Il-18 and Il-18Bp Serum Concentrations in Patients with Primary SjöGren'S Syndrome
Journal of Investigative Medicine, 2017The objectives of this study were to examine the serum levels of interleukin (IL)-37 and its clinical association in patients with primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) and to investigate whether or not IL-37 participates in the regulation of the pathogenesis of pSS. ELISA was used to analyse the serum levels of IL-37, total IL-18 and IL-18 binding protein

[The study of IL-18 and IL-18BP balance in aplastic anemia].
Zhonghua xue ye xue za zhi = Zhonghua xueyexue zazhi, 2012To investigate the role of IL-18 and IL-18BP balance in aplastic anemia (AA).A total of 29 AA patients and 22 controls were recruited in present research. The expressions of IL-18 and IL-18BP were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The mRNA expressions of IL-18 and IL-18BP were measured in all subjects using real-time quantitative ...

Interferon (IFN)-γ-inducing interleukin (IL)-18 is a crucial inflammatory cytokine systemically provided by monocytes. It is counteracted by IL-18 binding protein (IL-18BP), a decoy receptor that displays IFNγ-inducibility thus curbing inflammation by negative feedback. Since IL18BP inducibility is pronounced in human epithelial cells but diminished in

Study on the expression of IL-18, AcPL and IL-18BP mRNA in the psoriatic lesions
Current Medical Science, 2003To investigate the role of IL-18 and IL-18 binding protein (IL-18BP) in the pathogenesis of psoriasis, PT-PCR was used to semi-quantitatively analyze the mRNA expression of IL-18, AcPL (accessory protein-like) and IL-18BP in 12 psoriatic lesions and in 6 normal skin tissues. The results showed that IL-18 and AcPL mRNA were present in all specimens from

Serum and urinary levels of IL-18 and its inhibitor IL-18BP in Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
European cytokine network, 2010Overproduction of inflammation-related cytokines plays an important role in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). A crucial cytokine is IL-18, a member of the IL-1 family involved in the regulation of both innate and acquired immune responses. The aim of this study was to evaluate free IL-18 levels in the serum and urine of SLE patients, in order to ...

IL-18 signaling is regulated by caspase 6/8 and IL-18BP in turbot (Scophthalmus maximus)
International Journal of Biological MacromoleculesInterleukin (IL)-18 is synthesized as a precursor that requires intracellular processing to become functionally active. In human, IL-18 is processed by caspase 1 (CASP1). In teleost, the maturation and signal transduction mechanisms of IL-18 are unknown. We identified two IL-18 variants, IL-18a and IL-18b, in turbot.
