Comparative evaluation of a novel, moderately hypofractionated radiation protocol in 56 dogs with symptomatic intracranial neoplasia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Use of strongly hypofractionated radiation treatments in dogs with intracranial neoplasia did not improve outcomes and yielded increased rates of toxicosis.

Assessing Cognitive Functioning in Children With Brain Tumors: Interaction of Neighborhood Social Determinants of Health and Neurological Risk

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background This study investigated how neighborhood‐level social determinants of health (SDOH), including redlining and neurological risk, interact to influence cognitive outcomes in children treated for brain tumors (CTBT). Methods A retrospective chart review of 161 CTBT aged 5–17 was conducted.

Organoids in pediatric cancer research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Whole Brain Radiotherapy Combined with Simultaneous Integrated Boost for Brain Metastases of Lung Cancer: Its Clinical Effectiveness and Prognosis

open access: yesZhongliu Fangzhi Yanjiu, 2018
Objective To investigate the shorter-term curative efficacy and safety of whole brain radio therapy(WBRT) combined with simultaneous integrated boost versus sequential integrated boost using image-guided intensity-modulated radiotherapy (IG-IMRT) for ...

Transcriptional network analysis of PTEN‐protein‐deficient prostate tumors reveals robust stromal reprogramming and signs of senescent paracrine communication

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Combining PTEN protein assessment and transcriptomic profiling of prostate tumors, we uncovered a network enriched in senescence and extracellular matrix (ECM) programs associated with PTEN loss and conserved in a mouse model. We show that PTEN‐deficient cells trigger paracrine remodeling of the surrounding stroma and this information could help ...

Clinical and radiographic response of a paravertebral hemangioma to radiotherapy

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports
Hemangiomas can arise anywhere in the body. While vertebral hemangiomas are common, atypical hemangiomas with paraspinal and epidural extension are rare. We present a case of a patient who presented with persistent cough and anorexia from a paravertebral

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Image-guided radiotherapy in upper gastrointestinal malignancies: an Italian survey by the AIRO gastrointestinal study group

open access: yesOncologie
Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) plays a central role in modern radiotherapy. However, due to a lack of standardised guidelines for image acquisition, timing, and motion management protocols, considerable variation exists in clinical practice.
