Carboxylate−Imidazole Cooperativity in Dipeptide-Functionalized Gold Nanoparticles with Esterase-like Activity

open access: yesJournal of the American Chemical Society, 2005
We report here the first example of peptide-functionalized gold nanoparticles hydrolytically active against carboxylate esters. The active units are constituted by His-Phe-OH terminating thiols. The confinement of the catalytic units in the monolayer covering the nanoparticles triggers a cooperative hydrolytic mechanism operative at pH < 7 in which a ...

Designation of imidazole-containing dipeptides as pharmacological chaperones

open access: yesHuman & Experimental Toxicology, 2010
We review the dichotomous regulatory roles of natural imidazole-containing peptidomimetics (N-acetylcarnosine [NAC], carcinine, non-hydrolized carnosine) in maintaining skin homeostasis that determines whether keratinocytes survive or undergo apoptosis in response to various insults and in the development of skin diseases. General strategies addressing
