A Phosphine-Catalyzed Preparation of 4‑Arylidene-5-imidazolones

A simple and efficient method for constructing 4-arylidene-5-imidazolones was developed using a phosphine-catalyzed tandem umpolung addition and intramolecular cyclization of amidine pronucleophiles on arylpropiolates.

X‐ray and NMR were utilized to determine the crystal structure of BIMU8 (N‐[(1R,5S)‐8‐methyl‐8‐azabicyclo[3.2.1]octan‐3‐yl]‐2‐oxo‐3‐propan‐2‐ylbenzimidazole‐1‐carboxamide) and its hydrochloride.
