Single-cell RNA sequencing reveals T helper cells synthesizing steroids de novo to contribute to immune homeostasis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
T helper 2 (Th2) cells regulate helminth infections, allergic disorders, tumor immunity, and pregnancy by secreting various cytokines. It is likely that there are undiscovered Th2 signaling molecules.

Immune regulation in renal inflammation

open access: yes, 2021
Renal inflammation, induced by autoantigen recognition or toxic drugs, leads to renal tissue injury and decline in kidney function. Recent studies have demonstrated the crucial role for regulatory T cells in suppressing pathogenic adaptive but also ...

Cutaneous Manifestations of Hyper IgE Syndrome

open access: yesAllergology International, 2012
Hyper-IgE syndrome (HIES) is a primary immunodeficiency disorder characterized by atopic manifestations and susceptibility to infections with extracellular bacteria and fungi. Atopic manifestations include atopic dermatitis-like skin lesion and extremely

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Immune Cell Responses to the Cattle Lungworm, Dictyocaulus viviparus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The cattle lungworm, Dictyocaulus viviparus, is a parasitic nematode, which can cause severe pulmonary disease. Repeated natural infections result in protective immunity, and a live attenuated vaccine exists.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Intrahepatic CD8+ lymphocyte trapping during tolerance induction using mushroom derived formulations: A possible role for liver in tolerance induction

open access: yes, 2008
AIM: To determine the immunomodulatory effect of Shiitake (a mushroom extract), we tested its effect on liver-mediated immune regulation in a model of immune-mediated colitis. METHODS: Four groups of mice were studied. Colitis was induced by intracolonic

CD4+CD25+ TR cells suppress innate immune pathology through cytokine-dependent mechanisms [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Copyright @ 2003 The Rockefeller University PressCD4+CD25+ regulatory T (TR) cells can inhibit a variety of autoimmune and inflammatory diseases, but the precise mechanisms by which they suppress immune responses in vivo remain unresolved.

Crucial Role for Basophils in Acquired Protective Immunity to Tick Infestation

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Ticks are blood-sucking arthropods that can transmit various pathogenic organisms to host animals and humans, causing serious infectious diseases including Lyme disease. Tick feeding induces innate and acquired immune responses in host animals, depending
